Records at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have indicated that no fewer than 1.72 million persons are eligible to vote in the September 19 Edo governorship polls while 483,796 eligible voters will not participate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an INEC document titled “Delimitation of Edo State”, shows that the ineligible voters in Edo are on account of failure to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The consolidated figure of registered voters in the state as of August 2018 stands at 2,210,534 registered voters, while only 1,726,738 collected their PVCs, the document indicates.

The document shows that Edo has 18 Local Government Areas, with 192 Wards and 2,627 polling units.

A further breakdown of the registered voters figure in the document shows that the male accounts for 1,159,325 (representing 52 per cent), while 1,051,209 are female (or 48 percent).

Similarly, from the total registered voters, the youth (18 – 35 years) account for 50 per cent (1,105,338); Middle Aged (36 – 50 years) account for 29.1 per cent (643,551); and Elderly (51 – 70 years) has 15.99 per cent (353,508).

Eligible voters classified as the old (70 years and above) account for 4.89 per cent (108,137).

A further distribution of registered voters in the three senatorial districts of the state show that Edo South has the highest figure of 1,281,414: the North with 564,122: and Central senatorial district has 364,998.

NAN reports that Edo South has seven council areas; the North has six while Central has five Local Government Areas.

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised political parties, candidates and security agents to behave responsibly in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo.

The president, in a message to voters, political parties, election officials and security personnel, also warned against what he described as “the do-or-die mentality to politics.”

The president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, quoted Buhari to have said:

“I am passionately committed to free and fair elections, but my own commitment is not enough if other actors at ground zero refuse to abide by the rules.

”I want to see democratic standards in the country raised higher at every level, but these cannot be achieved when politicians resort to do-or- die methods to gain power by any means or machination.

“The do-or-die mentality to politics is a threat to free and fair elections because the actors are more focused on winning than caring about a fair outcome that reflects the will of the people.”

.

Why all this error about south having 7 LGA.
All the zones have equal number of LGA which is 6.
It just that one of the LGA in central is Bini speaking.

The Centre for Democratic Development (CDD) has warned against vote buying and dissemination of fake news during Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

CDD, in a statement on Thursday, issued its pre-election environment report said it has noticed a disturbing new trend in vote trading in Edo State.

“There is an emerging trend in the pattern of vote buying wherein it is the voters who are now searching for the highest bidder among the political camps to sell their vote to,” the centre said in the statement signed by its Director, Idayat Hassan.

“A number of voters interviewed insisted that the only thing which would make them vote, is if a contestant agrees to pay an amount for the vote.”

“In spite of efforts of key stakeholders to persuade the major party candidates to commit to peaceful conduct and engage in issue-based campaigns, the electoral environment continues to be gripped by needless partisan tension.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is continuing with its efforts to improve the commission’s deployment of technologies in conducting elections in the country.

The commission on August 6 introduced a dedicated online portal, INEC Result Viewing (IRV), that will enable Nigerians view results from polling units in real-time on election days.

The electoral umpire had last week in Benin, the Edo State capital, said it would deploy a new technology called Z-pad, which will only serve as biometric accreditation using the photographs of voter’s fingerprints.

The Z-pad was deployed at the August 8 Nasarawa central constituency bye-election as a test-run but faced challenges. INEC has, however, explained that tablet cameras would only be used to take photos of the polling unit EC8A result sheets for the Saturday elections.

The INEC national commissioner for voter education, Festus Okoye, had said the commission is determined to address all concerns by voters through enhancing the level of transparency in the conduct of elections, especially in the process of releasing results of elections.
Re: Edo Decides 2020- Live feeds, updates, real time pictures from polling booths. by EDSG2028: 8:17pm On Sep 18, 2020
The real-time posting of the election results, as stated by INEC, simply entails posting and uploading photographs of the EC8A/EC8A(VP), EC60, 40H forms results in PDF versions from polling units of a particular election held in a given state.

For instance, if it were the general elections, the IVR would contain the results coming from all the 119,973 polling units and 57,000 voting points across the country. The same would happen for other off-circle elections and subsequent bye-elections that would be conducted by INEC.

At the close of voting at a particular polling unit, the presiding officer sorts and counts the ballots and records the votes of candidates in both figures and words in the appropriate forms EC60E, EC8A, EC 40H(I).
