It's so appalling and disgusting when a graduate who is supposed to take care of their families (Aged parents, younger siblings and in some cases wife and kid/s)starts calling these same people for assistance just because they can't meet up with their basic needs.
This is the case of many graduates in Nigeria. Personally I believe the worst thing that can happen to anyone is to be born in a poor home and still come from a poor background in this country where basically nothing work and corruption is seen as a normal thing in every governmental establishments meant to serve the masses because it has become our birth right and the government seems not to be interested in tackling it because the government after promises upon promises doesn't care about its citizens immediately they get into the corridors of power.
N-power was a scheme so many people, despite the low pay, still put food on the table of many graduates, without it so many graduates won't have boast of using their certificates since they graduated because so many got frustrated after years of job hunting.
The scheme started well under the supervision of the vice president, stipends were paid between 27th of previous month to 3rd of a new month. Since the creation of the new ministry(federal ministry of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development) headed by Sadia Umar farouq, I can boldly tell you that the scheme is totally a disaster. Volunteers only get paid once in three months, people are still owed backlogs since 2016, volunteers are secretly disengaged and over 10k volunteers not paid since March till date.
She claimed to have spent billions of naira feeding school children at home during lockdown, volunteers weren't paid till they cry out on social media or go on protest before one month stipend will be paid and the suffering continues.
The scheme was supposed to be for 2years only and each beneficiary was supposed to save out of the 30k stipend to start up something after the 2years duration but how can one save from

Such meager stipend that comes once in blue moon after most of the beneficiaries have incurred debts upon debts trying to meet up or feed their families. Food, rent, transportation, bills, families expenses etc on a 30k stipend that comes once in a blue moon. Is this really empowerment or slavery.
Volunteers suffered during the lockdowns because stipends were not paid, many had to purchase food items on credit, rent got expired and landlords won't even listen to you and embarrasses you publicly, worst still volunteers were disengaged during the lockdown. Today is 21st September and many volunteers have not been paid from March till now.
Nteach volunteers are the ones doing the jobs of government teachers while the government teachers in some cases do nothing or never show up at school but yet get paid from 25th to 27th of every month while n-power teach suffers daily doing the jobs and still have to beg monthly for them to be paid stipend of 2months ago.
Is this really fair? Teachers are been exited with 2 to 4 years experience in teaching while federal government is trying to recruit new teachers where most of them may have never taught before. Is the current government not aware of things happening in the country or they just chose to look the other way.
FMHDS should pay their stipends because its no longer funny, people are starving and suffering. N-power is supposed to be one of the greatest achievement of this administration, but it has become a disaster since a new ministry was created to handle it,even batch B were not given devices promised to be given third quarter of last year.
NB: before you ask volunteers to go look for something else to do, remember everyone cannot go into trade, everyone cannot be lucky to get a new job, because you are lucky doesn't mean others are lucky too. I see a rise in internet fraud and crimes on the increase soon when 500k youths can't sustain themselves. This is just my opinion, you can share yours too if you are affected. Forgive my long write up. The youths are not being treated well in Nigeria .
Professors and Cambridge English scholars, over to you.
mods, pls help push to fp so that our voices can be heard.
