Anyone has advice on avoiding Burnout? I generally work 11-15 hours a day, then try to spend my limited free time towards Research & Development but since the beginning of the year I have started to Burnout pretty bad. It’s not that I lost my drive, motivation or passion. I just can’t do it. At this point, I burnout daily and I am having a hard time staying constant with studying for certifications or R & D in general. Any advice?

My advise is you reduce your work time and probably have breaks during those hours. You are already an experienced dork you know what to do and what works for you boss.

Take a break, maybe for like a month or how long it takes you to regain yourself. If after taking a long break you're still the same then your burnout is hinting at a bigger issue that only you can find and fix.

Bahat:Thanks for this brother. Seems my main focus this weekend will be to relax, decompress and take a step back.

Najdorf:I guess a long break could work too. I’ve been waiting thinking that things would get better without actually making attempts at fixing my terrible work habit.
If my life is still shit after the break, then I guess I'd have to start thinking of my tech retirement plans.

EvilSec:A lot of people see programming(tech fields in general) as something that has to be your destiny or life passion once you start, but it doesn't, it can be just a hobby. You might even find something else you enjoy more.

As for me this computing filed is my first and last hobby. I see it as a way of life. I don't deprive myself of enjoyment when it's required as I'm not a nerd.

I think it's a common thing for tech guys to burn out, I have been down with illness since 2days ago or so but still have to get things done.

vheckthor1:I believe the main targets of stress, in this case, are the eyes. Sleep and some other factors too, are present. I know.
For starters, just use screens/glasses that protect the eyes from prolonged backlight exposure.
Definitely, burnouts are inevitable but can be a tad minimized. It depends on the factors. No standard.

This post has been extremely eye-opening, in a good way. There’s a lot perspectives I did not take into account. I greatly appreciate the advise.

First things first. Most people dont even understand the meaning of Burnout. Well here u have it...
Burnout is a reaction to prolonged or chronic job stress and is characterized by three main dimensions: exhaustion, cynicism (less identification with the job), and feelings of reduced professional ability.
As a Plant Stem Cell Therapist. I would ask you some questions.
When last did you exercise?
When last did you go out to have fun?
When last did u switch off to try something entirely new?
Answer these questions, make necessary changes and you will be alright.
We all need a break in our lives.
If Buhari can take Vacations even in the heat of Crises in Nigeria, who are you not to?
Thats my 2 cents

Depending on what you do , you can outsource some part of it and focus on the most important part. You only live once

“Somebody” pushed this to the front page because it affects him too. Why won’t you burn out when you work that long? There is a reason normal working hours are either eight or twelve daily. If you die someone else who works smart will replace you.

You need rest.
Jesus saves from sin.
He took your place on the cross so that you will not face God's wrath all by yourself.
Accept him as your Lord and saviour.

Take a break. I was told to take a break early this year, I didn't.
Hope you are not consuming stuff or indulging in habits that will keep you awake, like coffee and alcohol abuse or smoking?
But my system forced me to take a break.
Are my clients complaining about my work pace? Yes.
My point is, respect your system and don't kill yourself.
Life will move on very fast if you do. If I had died the first time I slumped, I guess life would have moved on pretty fast and those client would have simply moved on.

As a Muslim, it's difficult for me to ever have a burnout. I visit the mosque five times daily. I spend about 5- minutes to the mosque and another 5mins back. The prayer is about 5mins long. That's a minimum of 15minutes break, five times a day.
Also, on my way to/from he mosque, I ponder on the problems I'm trying to solve and, to be honest, I always find a solution before returning home.
No wonder many of my christian mates during undergraduate are always surprised by my performance because I don't spend as much time as them on studying but we get fairly similar results.
Add that to the tranquility, reassurance and blessings in the five daily prayers, you'll be surprised at the wonders.
My special advice for you is to become a Muslim.

Give the brain its food. Orgasm.
Food is what to the stomach what orgasm is to the brain.
