Which European Nation can match the Military Budget of America, China or even Russia. They better relax and wait for Trump to leave office, if offended by his rhetoric, then renew relationships with America.

The only EU country that can match or even surpass the U.S military technology is Germany. But unfortunately, the world war 2 had thought the other European countries a lesson. Allowing Germany to harness its full military potential could mean the end for them. Its better to be military-slavic to the US than face Germany's military wrath
Imagine Germany having just 4 carrier fleet, 500 nuclear weapons, 1000 fighter jets and 200 nuclear bomber. The Germans that I know can have this in just ten years, but Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen with become scarce worldwide. If the Germans can have these arsenal (not Arsenal football club abeg), even the Nuclear Russia, China and the US won't sleep with their 2 eyes closed.

Germany cannot go that route because even if they do they can't attain the global dominance they so much desired in the past. I love Germany and I hate the evil British.

Germany is far behind. They are focused on making more wicked Mercedes Benz. War is not their priority anymore
The first country to build a war capable submarine and medium range ballistic missile and a fighter jet is Germany. The first country to deploy them in war is Germany. The Germans had a bad experience in world war two when Russia, Britain, the US, Canada etc combined to crush them and eventually split them into the west and east Germany.

Germany is not Nigeria or Ghana.

Honestly, I thought I was the only one that observed that self-insulting statement by Macron. He wasn't smart at all by saying that, and I bet some EU countries will be embarrassed. How can an entire continent, worse still the EU, be subservient to China, a country that is still considered a developing country in some aspects? What a shameful own goal. Now I can see why UK left the EU, they actually did the right thing because it's obviously not worth it.
It is an own goal.

Well, Even I'd he didn't admit it to the public that China is now among the world powers, the European leaders themselves knows this, so it doesn't make any difference nor does it change their predicament bwiyh the Americans and Chinks

It does make a difference. Perception is very important in international politics and that's why some countries would rely on propaganda to cover up some defects. What Macron said is a public declaration that they're weak and vulnerable, and can't stand on its own. Which is very bad, especially on a continent that is living on past glory.

Some information are said to be classified and thus would only be revealed in secret, in closed door meetings.

However, the world should be wary of China becoming a superpower nation that would supercede the United States. If any country should be a superpower, that country shouldn't be a Communist nation like China, that would be inherently dangerous to global peace and stability.

Aside being an open democracy with two strong parties checkmating each other, the United States has a developed and free press, very strong institutions that put its president in check, a relatively all inclusive rainbow nation with people from all works of life present in virtually every strata of their economy but same can't be said about China. In fact, China is the polar opposite of such qualities. A country that does not even believe in its people having a free nation and liberty would do worse on other nations. Even almost all its neighbors are being bullied in recent times, and the stronger they become, the worse their bullying. India, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, Hong Kong etc. all have tales of woes to tell about China.

God forbid that China will rule the world unilaterally else we are doomed.

listen bro. When it comes to tech, the German are unrivaled. I was privy to read about some German's tech projects that were shut down after the world 2. Their thoughts, even in that time is mind-blowing. Many of the American inventions today were concepts stolen from the Germans after the war. The Irish too are naturally brilliant people. It will interest you to know that a large chunk of today's American scientist are of German and Irish descent

That's more like a brilliant hypocrite. France still holds its former colonies hostage, plundering their resources, and make them dependent on on them for practically everything. Now he feel cheated being on the other side. Mtsheeeew.

Nw u see the reality. More than half of world sophisticated weapons are bought from either US, Russia or China. I always fall short of word when I see some Nigerians here underestimating China. China and US are two most powerful countries with US struggling with about $26.70 trillion debt while China lingering with $ 5.48 trillion debt.
There are more Chinese products in US than in Nigeria but they manufacture them in international standard quality.

I don't think you even understand me. No body is doubting the prowess of the Germans. All I am saying is the Germans are not into weapons manufacturing like before. They're not into war as a business for now. They produce luxury products and that's where they pump their research money into. Just like North Korean pumping all their money into long range Ballistic missiles that can carry nuclear heads. Everyone now has a priority and war is not one for the Germans now.

Russia, could have been taken by the Germans had her armies been trained to fight on snow. Read the history, they were few miles away from Moscow before the snows and the GB, was no match... Have you read the miracle of Maine! France was almost taken... The owe their freedom to the US. Read about Hitler's last push. The battle of Bastogne. You will understand how many men the US sacrificed to the god of war Hitler. Germany, lost the war because of 1, The snow in Russia and the US entering the War..... I fear the Germans. They're ruthless in conquest... The way the took Poland under two hours... the blizKrieg something resembling what I spelt... If they should join China in seeking world dominance? Everyone will have it hot.

vice versa. The U.S. actually became stronger

Really? I think US is winning petty battles but losing the war. It doesn't happen at once, but undoubtedly, USA is less influential today than it was 20 years ago. It will only get less so.

Europe is saying, "we can't rely on the US; yes, we need to pay more for our defense; and now we need to quit our dependency on US arms". Sounds like the US defense industry is going to lose out, which has other implications for the US' ability to project its power. The recent call to extend the arms embargo on Iran... fell flat at the Security Council as traditional allies felt ambivalent, with China and Russia outright rejecting it.

America is withdrawing from leadership roles in organizations like WHO (during a pandemic), and climate change accords (while ignoring the science behind the worst fires they've seen). On the other hand, China is upping it's funding and is growing more influential around the globe, with far more relevance in growing economies in Africa than US. They even fought US to a standstill on the ongoing trade dispute, despite the trouble with Huawei and TikTok. Two decades ago, China would have capitulated quickly, but the sleeping Dragon has become stronger, challenging the weakening Eagle. Canada is also engaged in tit-fot-tat disputes with US. There are growing realizations that the world is getting tired of the big bully US which penalizes countries for disagreeing with it on any grounds.

More significantly, China recently pledged to be carbon neutral before 2060, something the US has refused to show leadership in. In fact, US is retrogressing. Guess who's going to be the leader in renewables? If not for Tesla and Toyota, US really would have very little electric vehicle capacity. China already has the largest market share in EVs and buses, as well as panels, etc. China also has surpassed the US in number of scientific publications, which for long has been used as a benchmark for technical leadership, and as a proxy for economic growth.

Although still a popular place to go, immigrants, students, and tourists are increasingly looking elsewhere.
Re: Macron Calls On Europe To Quit Dependency On US Arms by georgedaniel01(m): 3:42pm On Oct 01, 2020
Macron should go back to his history books. When the entire Europe was ravaged by WW2, the US came to the rescue by financing the international bank of reconstruction and development (now world bank) which was the lifeblood of europe's economic recovery.

France received the first bailout loan of $250M. He thought the US tabled madmen to negotiate those loans??

Checkout the list of all world banks presidents(excluding acting) if you will find a non-american.

America is notoriously smart!
