The first S in SARS means SPECIAL. They are recruited specially to combat armed robbery. So the recruits must have something special to be recruitable. And to catch a thief, the best hunters are thieves. SARS squad is thus made up of convicts, kidnappers, murderers, fraudsters. These evil humans are sought-after, reform and turn to killers with state backing. This is one instance, where Nigeria government is not wasting nefarious talents. It's akin to the way FBI utilise criminal talents instead of killing or jailing them. Thus bunch of SARS operatives are uncouth, uneducated, dirty, dressed like agbero and behaved like touts.

They are actually effective in curbing armed robbery cases. It's like a kind of amnesty for armed robbers, join SARS, stop robbery, help us fight your friends and start collecting salary with state pardons. This is a juicy offer for any criminal, I bet most of them willingly surrender and eventually recruited into SARS gang.

Criminals will always find ways to be criminals, especially when the state enables them. Political elites are always in need of army to intimidate opposition, enemies and foes. SARS are just the right team to do these dirty works. They are the killer squad, the intimidation army, the ballot snatcher and the kidnappers. It's the reason they move about in nondescript vehicles and no means of identifications.

After years of political patronage, they have grown to become so powerful and become the untouchables. They know most of the politicians secrets, they know where they hide their dirty laundries. Now politicians and government officials are afraid of the almighty SARS. And absolute powers corrupt absolutely. Now SARS are out for blood, everyone and anyone is now a fair game. They fear no consequences. Who will questions them? Nobody. The teeming Southern enterprising Nigerian youths are thus fertile targets of SARS. They have money to be extorted. By framing, intimidation, kidnapping, threat and outright killing, they have successfully made them victims in their own country. And there's nothing anybody can do about it.

SARS are state sanctioned killing and extortion machines. They will kill again, robbed again, kidnapped again and anyone could be the next victims.

No saviour in sight, until everyone is ready to fight this menace.
