well I listen to Rock (all forms) but most of this guys were in their prime when I was still a kid.

I mentioned earlier I didn't even know who Eddie Van Halen was until Naptu opened this thread. I'm more accustom to the guitarist of today.

You should listen to Orianthi Highly Strung and tell me what you feel.

Part of the lyrics go:

(They changed DA to TA in the music notes)

Now, the real reason that I love this song (and the reason that I played it every weekend 1996-2000) is not because of Michael Jackson, rather it’s because of Guns N Roses guitarist Slash.

Slash played the riff and the guitar solo on this song and the guitar solo is too sweet. It is absolutely wonderful. That’s the reason that I love this song.

Several people have featured on Michael Jackson’s songs, but (apart from Paul McCartney), they are usually not acknowledged in the song. Michael never said anything about Siedah Garrett (I Just Can’t Stop Loving You) or Eddie Van Halen (Beat It), but he actually introduced Slash before the guitar solo in this song.

The title of the song stands for Dom Sheldon, but Michael is actually singing Tom Sneddon.

Michael Jackson – D.S. (1995)

title of the song is DS isn't it? Never knew it's a diss song and didn't know Michael do diss song.

Love the song anyway. grin

better than Slash? Well yeah its possible but hey I still don't know the criteria they use in knowing who is better than who.

Jimi Hendrix was a god who played the Star Spangled Banner with his teeth and often set his guitar on fire. NTA Channel 10 often showed his concerts in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

naptu2:
The video begins with the famous incident in which Jimi Hendrix set his guitar on fire (It was a Fender Startocaster! shocked).

This is not the official video of the song. Rather, a fan pieced together some of the most famous clips of him (e.g. the clip of him playing the guitar with his teeth).

Angelique Kidjo covered this song.

This song and Victor Uwaifo's Joromi are my two best songs for tuning a guitar.

Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (1968).

I tried, it all seem too old. To me aside the mad guitar skill on display, lyrics go along way. Don't think 70's and 60's rock have that.

Jimi wasn't the first to play with his teeth, he learnt it from a friend actually, but have you heard purple haze.

Wow. Actually thought the dude who played the guitar in Michael Jackson's beat it is Slash, never knew it's this guy.

Frankly I've never even heard of him until now. Always thought Slash of Guns and Roses played for Michael Jackson.

There's Dirty Diana, Give In To Me, Come Together and the likes. Nice to know this anyway.

Rest In Peace to him.

Started jamming hard and metal rock when I got introduced to the Cranberries....
Metallica is still my favourite.
Then went to other rock groups...3 doors down, stained, flyleaf, 30 seconds to mars, mars voltage, everyday sunday, smashing pumpkins, matchbox 20, kings of leon, disturbed, system of a down, and a thousand more bands in my collection.
Then later I switched to indie...with bands like Arcade fire, mgmt, etc,

Hands down my favourite band of all time is U2.
R.E.M come close.....lyrically.

In the midst of a top 10 arist or band of all time of any genre, I'll easily drop rap artist Nas in.

Rest in peace van halen

well if you have money to travel, AC/DC might do a concert soon since they want to release an album before this year ends. Funny enough most of the greatest bands of all time are British bands.

I did a Jimi Hendrix series on my diary in 2014, but I think it was washed away by the data loss tsunami, so I'll post it again.

I was always fascinated by the story in this song. Seal also covered it in the late 1990s.

You can see him playing the guitar with his teeth at the beginning of this video.

It seems you don't know what Jesus Christ said about heaven's eligibility criteria.
Let me see if I can remind you.

Don't bother yourself. They are talking about another heaven here. They're talking about Rockers' Heaven. IIf you must know this kind of heaven, then you must listen to the intro of Hell's Belll' and 'Highway to Hell''by AC/DC.
I understand him 'breaking on through to the other side' as the Doors put it but I don't know which Jimi he's supposed to be jamming with! Hendrix or Page?
As for Michael, he always preferred Slash to any other guitarist as shown at 1995 MTV Awards. They just sync seamlessly.
Rock and Roll is the genre that takes music from the blues into the black. Be wary of it.

not bad. Not bad at all. It's deep. Nice lyrics. Reminds me of The Beetles Hey Jude. Hey Jude and Hey Joe kinda rhymes then the lyrics reminds me of The Temptations Papa Was A Rolling Stone.

I'm trying to restrain myself right now, but maybe I'll go crazy tonight.

I usually don't discuss my favourite rock songs because my taste is very ecclectic and I have had many favourites over many decades (anything from Paperback Writer to Paint It Black to Born In The USA to Smells Like Teen Spirit) and it can get very difficult.

I created a playlist on Windows Media Player in 2005 and I decided to only add my favourite rock songs and there were over a thousand songs by the time that I had finished.

I'll be back tonight.

Cancer always picks the most unique spots to hit these white people. Tongue cancer, seriously? I’m sure spleen cancer is a thing too.

Honestly, I don’t know him nor the band. He’s another celebrity who’s succumbed to life’s ultimate rite of passage.
