In Nigeria, almost everyone own a business.

...Even if you are employed, there is a side hustle you may be doing to supplement your work. The reality is that in most cases, one job does not solve your financial issue.

If you are lucky or have a good business acumen, the side hustle or the business you started will begin to gain traction.

When this happens, the next step is to make the business officially recognised by registering your business.

To avoid overcomplicating things, there are just 6 steps involved in making this happen. The good thing is that you can do it yourself.

Step 1: Check if your business name is available to register. This is the most crucial step. You cannot register a name that has been registered by another business. The idea is to have two names that you will use. When one of it I registered, you can fall back to the second one.

You can use the cac public name search platform

Step 2: Create a user account on the CAC website. This is the profile you will use to create and upload all the necessary documents. In this step, you must be careful on the details you provide when registering. You should make sure that the details are correct.

Step 3: Name Reservation: You would be shown a portal on where you can reserve your business name. This is the place you would fill in your two business names (The real and alternative names). You would pay N 500 for this.

Step 4: Set up Company details. This is the stage where you specify what your company deal with. This stage typically has 7 substeps. Do not be dismayed, it is easy to follow

Step 5: Pay for the CAC certificate. After you are done, with step 4, the next step is to pay for the certificate. As of 2020, the price is approximately 18,000.

Step 6: Upload required documents. If you are registering business name, you will be asked to upload, the receipt from step 5, Means of identification, BN1 form and Availability code document. If your business is a professional service type, you may be asked to supply a certificate.

These are the steps. It is as simple as that. If you want to take this route, you can get help here https://businesstosales.com/business-name.php
