Don't buy second hand phone simple, except you know the phone and the owner from when the owner bought the phone as a brand new phone. Be guided o

Secondly, once someone is avoiding bank payment in most deals, is time to know that the person is trying to close his tracks from being caught. Most criminals are caught via account numbers used to received payment and BVN details.

In your link, usman who sold the phone to the op could not produce initial receipt. Usman could have bought a stolen phone and issued receipt to the op. As general rule, try to view used phone as used car. If you are buying a used car, wouldn't u verify the owner?
Anyway, I do not buy used phone and I even buy new phone from reputable outlet.
The best thing is just to buy new from slot or 3chub. That is my policy. If it's 20k phone hand reach buy, if it's 5k palasa, buy, if 300k phone OK.
I even so called London used phones also have police wahala.
The wahala arnt worth it.

Once a stolen phone is involved, even if you present any of those 2, Nigerian police will still arrest you, its a business for them

Might interest you to know that majority of stolen phone cases never happen.

They just victimize people with second hand phones and arrest a chain of people, but when any of the case bursts, its always discovered that there was no report of any stolen phone anywhere.

Buy from a shop that sells phones . Don’t go buying from an individual.

If you buy from the market where such are traded , the law will be in your side .

I was out drinking late at night with someone, we happened to meet a person who was a mutual friend to the person I was with there.

After much drinking, talks, laughs, it was now time for me to leave. The dude who was a mutual friend to my initial company called my attention and talked to me in a low tune.
He told me he was an officer and asked me if there was any place I know and sure that young working class guys hang out late that I can show him so he can carry his guys to go and arrest them..

He said after they make arrests the arrested guys would try to give something to avoid them to police taking them to the station. Also I won't be present during the arrest so no one will know and I will be given a cut out of what will be realized.

Imagine.. He wanted me to snitch, sellout people even if it were people I know... All that mattered to him was the money he would get. he was not even on duty.

Imagine someone proposing this kind of thing to a person he met for the first time in his life.

Fear Police .... they are not your friend

I Decided to Bring this to the Politics Section to get attention of More Nigerians ...

This is what is happening all over Nigeria Now , I Want you to read and Learn ... don't fall a victim ...

This is Not the Issue of Sars or Yahoo Boys !!! , This one pass am ....

I Will Write it as a Story and Narration so that many people will understand ....

If you are one of those the use to Buy Second HAND Phones , Fairly used or anything Used in Nigeria , Think twice before making a buying again !!!!

A Guy came to a lady with an Original IPhone X , Asking her to buy , that the owner is seriously sick in the hospital and needs money , he said that the price is normally 250k , But if she get 150k let her pay because of the urgency of the funds , The lady priced 100k ... after much dialogue , he make a fake call and ask the lady to brink money that the owner don agree.

So that Lady asked him to bring his account number , make she do the transfer , na so that Guy tell him say , he get problem with his bank , that he no dey use bank for now , make the girl give him cash , he tell the girl say make they go bank go withdraw , the Guy say make they use Nearby POS services , that he will pay for charges .

So after payment , the Guy gave the girl the phone , and disappear into thin air , the Phone is very very Good , 100% Original and the girl was enjoying it .... After 2 weeks of their transaction ... she received the highest shock of her life ... 4 armed policemen visited her apartment and arrested her.

They told her that the phone she is using was one of the properties collected from a man at a Gun point robbery , that she is one of the suspects , they also told her they on the day of the robbery , the man's 24k Gold watch worth 2.8 Million Naira , Her necklace worth 6 Million naira and her 2 months used Mercedes benz GLE Worth 42 Million Naira was collected from him.

They went further to tell the girl that inside that phone , the a contract and deal that worth over 80 Million naira was also deleted, they said before her release, that she must pay for all these or be charged to court.

They gave her the second option of providing the Guy that sold the Phone to her !!!

To Cut the story short, a Guy who works as an informant to a luxury hotel said he saw the same guy who sold the phone to the girl with the people that arrested the lady, as much as the man who claims that his heaven was stolen, discussing on how the girl go pay at least 5 million before they think of releasing her.

They are there drinking and eating Big meat , and the girl is inside police cell suffering.

Don't Be surprise if those SHOUTING END SARS with You are One of their INFORMANTS

Welcome to Nigeria.

PLS FP.

Because most of d ppl complaining are so dumb that dey don't want to improve themselves. When u want to get a used phone, ensure its from a known dealer(shop),ensure a reciept (not invoice)is clearly issued for the phone. When such phones are tracked to u in case of stolen phone or kidnapping tracking tender such receipt as evidence.Insist they take u to the station if it's along d road u were caught(don't ever offer bribe or try settle issues on d road).Pls as u get to the station, don't be in a hurry when dealing with issue like that.Request to see a senior officer while at d station and try explain ur ordeal to him. Most importantly try and get a lawyer and insist on ur rights. If u not released afterwards, insist the case be charged to court.Lets try and know our rights but ensure ur hands are actually clean sha
my brother, u make this thing looks so easy. If u are actually in nigeria u will knw that u don't question a police officer (its unfortunate) coz the moment u open ur mouth to prove that u are right, u will be greeted with slaps,
u mentioned about taking u to the station, if they caught you they only decides what to do and not you, and u cant do anything, as long as they knw that phone is not a stolen phone, that's all set up, they won't take u to station, they must find a way to break you and make u settle them. You don't knw this ppl.

The only time this ppl goes to station is when the work they are doing is legal.

Forgot iCloud or find my phone. Any device with IMEI is traceable, brother. Even a spectranet mifi can be traced if the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is gotten. The moment you insert your sim in a device with IMEI (iPhone or Nokia touch) it searches for network and connects to a nearby cell phone tower. This makes it easy for it to be tracked down through what they call triangulation. That's what police use in tracking stolen phones.
if you check ur Iphone vie IMEI omo it will show u find my iPhone is off, if the person has turned it off Manually, and for that person to successfully turned it off Manually he/she has gotten ur phone lock password, and also find where u store ur apple id on the phone which is basically the email address , if you to search it with link phone through iCloud it will require apple ID of the phone which will be sent to the link phone if the person haven't removed it ooooo , if the person has changed everything, oga forget it , the phone is gone forever...

There are many unreported crimes.

So I don't see how stating part of a huge fact invalidate my view.

The acclaimed fact doesn't invalidate Ur view, because Ur view is superior to a fact

Nobody will sell off their phone if they're satisfied with the phone's performance. You can't just wake up and say you want to sell your phone for no reason. It's either the battery doesn't last, slow charge, crazy screen or something more sinister like what you mentioned OP.

I will never buy a used phone (when I want to buy).

I guess you did not read my previous comment enough. My guy, whether "find my phone" is off or on, police don't need it to track your phone once they have the IMEI. I explained it in my previous comment. They have their sophisticated software they use in tracking any device. If the person has changed whatever stuff in the iPhone, police will still track it once you put your sim.

Once the phone is reported to police as stolen, and you brought the phone, switched it on and put sim, if you like change your password, turn off "find my phone", do everything, police will still track it. They have sophisticated software they use in tracking any phone that's why people go to them to track their device. Go and make your research.

If there was a bank transfer, the account will be frozen and the owner traced and arrested. That's the importance of online banking.

if she had insisted on receipt or affidavit or transfer, even if the seller was police officer, he would not be able to set her up!!! wisdom is profitable

Not just wisdom but doing things properly. One of the issues Nigerians have is that they are too casual. With every sale collect a receipt - do things properly - insist on transfer not cash to support the receipt etc
