The call and protest to #EndSARS in the country began three years ago. It was championed on Twitter by a Nigerian realtor and human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, with the Twitter handle @segalink.

The aim of the #EndSARS agitation was to stop the brutality of the Nigeria Police and excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. And fortunately, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo called for the review of the SARS, which made President Muhammadu Buhari draft Awosanya as a member of the presidential panel to overhaul the police unit, now known as the FSARS.

However, despite whatever changes and functions that might have been added or removed, the FSARS continued to hound innocent Nigerians more than it has fought criminal activities. It was as if the ‘federal’ added to it from 2018 was a curse.

It could be categorically affirmed that the spate of the viciousness of the FSARS increased. There were series of harassment, seizing of phones and laptops from Nigerian youths, arresting young people with dreadlocks, extorting money from citizens, and the most unfortunate parts of their horrible atrocities were killing and maiming of people. Then, one would ask if they were wolves in sheep’s clothing. The question that would pop up in one’s mind was if they were to protect the citizens or brutalise them.

Just like most of the men at the helms of affairs conferred with power in this country, thereby misusing and abusing it, the men of the FSARS have overstepped their bounds, and hence, the reason for another second wave of the current #EndSARS protests. The haunted and victimised Nigerian youths have had enough of these gun-taunting demons in black uniforms and demanding #EndSARS.

So far so good, the peaceful protests had gained momentum, this time around with prominent celebrities leading the processions. The likes of the British-Nigerian actor, John Boyega, Nigerian music artistes such as Runtown, Small Doctor, Tiwa Savage and Falz have demonstrated that the FSARS personnel should be banned from operating. In the same manner, Nigerian footballers like Ahmed Musa, Leon Balogun, John Ogu and former goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme were among those protesting to make the federal government eradicate the FSARS.

While the protests were held in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Ughelli, Owerri and other cities, the boldness and unanimous voice of the Nigerian youth and stakeholders behind the demonstrations should be applauded. The show was another indication that Nigerians cannot continually tolerate the criminality of the security operatives against the people they are supposed to protect.

Reason why SARS can't be BANNED nor REFORMED:

Let me enlighten you guys on why some happenings in Nigeria (esp #endsars) will never be looked into. Because I've noticed that most Nairalanders are not in tune with reality, rather idealism.

Now, there's something called "food chain" if you remember your primary 4 science. That's what's playing out here. You can continue to wail and scream all you like it's not gonna change a thing. All these protest may fall into the deaf ears.

The SARS unit you meet on the road, before they were given such strategic location to mount, their OC (Officer in Command) already gave them a target to meet of maybe 10,000,000/week depending on how sensitive the area is. Now if they don't meet this target, they'll be replaced (in which they don't wanna risk).

The OC has been told by the Deputy Commissioner to meet a target of maybe 100,000,000 from his 20 teams (X) the number of OCs in that state.

The DCs will take 200,000,000 to the CP.

The CPs X 36 states will take 3,600,000,000 to the IG

The IG is gonna take 1B to who put him there. And so on till it gets to the C in C or fades away from our understanding.

And you sit here on Nairaland and say the foot soldiers (SARS) should not meet their target? Laughable. I laugh IN Japanese.

Are you saying that the C in C should issue an order asking them to stop doing what is bringing Money to their pockets? Laughable grin

Get this straight from today, whenever something which ought to be done right is intentionally done wrong just understand that someone/some people are on the benefitting end.

You think all your hashtags (ENDSARS), posts on Nairaland, twitter, Facebook, blog posts, etc don't get to their notice? They do. But Oga they won't end shit. Buhari won't end it.
If you think they don't see it, why is that one small hate speech about them (that we did not even hear about o) DSS will go and pick the person. But full protest and online campaign will not be heard. Oga read in between the lines now.

You can scream all you want online, nothing is gonna happen.

What pains me most is, it's the southerners and westerners (SARS Officers) that kill themselves (the southerners) the most. You can drive in the North for 2 months before seeing SARS once. But southerners don't like each other. So they kill themselves like goats then blame northerners everytime for their woes. As a sars officer you can't try all these rubbish up north. They'll transfer you that same week.

the north are more strick and together. any criminal police or sars that was sent to the north. will work his way back to South within 3-6 months. they can't try that there beside the povalty in the north means it's mission impossible to extort over there. even if they to extort there and they reported it to their imam or community leader. that officer would be dismissed in no time.

but here in the south the governors are turning a blind eye. while sars terrorise the people. most Nigerian soldiers are not happy with sars because their family members had been a victim to sars.
