Why do I always feel that most social media trends in Nigeria are for clout chasing?

Suddenly, everyone is displaying and shouting #ENDSARS, even those that haven't seen
a SARS vehicle before.

For Pete's sake, the problem isn't just SARS, SARS is just a pinch of the lump. It's the system, the system birthed the unit.

In a corruption-free society, a SARS official can't stop you on the road to demand for money
you don't owe them.

In a corruption-free society, a SARS official can't stop you on the road because you own an iPhone or a MAC or
you're wearing dreads, because it's not within their jurisdiction to monitor people's finances or how they choose
to spend them.

In a corruption-free society, the police can't stop you to collect bribe or to extort you.

What happens after the #ENDSARS campaign?

If the gov't manages to yield, they disband SARS, integrate them into other units, and they resume their
extortion and brutality after a few weeks.

We go back to being the most corrupt black nation, poverty capital, and the cybercrime capital of Africa.

And an average foreigner seeing us as fraudsters.

We've never had a massive protest against bad governance before.

NDDC is looting away the destiny of a region, yet no one protested for accountability.

Reckless governance is already selling us off to China for modern day colonialism.

I'll only take any protest serious if youths can come out en masse to protest for capital punishment for corruption (theft, fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, looting, etc).

Corruption is what besets us in this country.

And until we decide to take a drastic measure against it, then every other thing we do is just a façade.

#ENDCorruption.
