Dialogue, Not Force

The ongoing #EndSARS protests by Nigerian youths have continued in many cities of the country despite the government’s swift response to their initial demands. It is clear that the disbandment of the dreaded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and subsequent replacement with the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) has not assuaged the demands of the youths, who have consistently trooped out on the streets in rain and sunshine, even at nights, to show their dissatisfaction with the solution offered by government to their demands. The issues are clearly more fundamental than the replacement of one police unit with another. The youths, and indeed most well-meaning Nigerians, are calling for justice for the individuals and families affected by the brutality of the policemen attached to the disbanded SARS unit. They are also using the protest to bring to the fore the systemic failures which have led to widespread corruption, lack of accountability and massive youth unemployment, among other ills.

A BBC News report on 15th October insinuated that the Nigerian Army may be deployed to quell the protests by force. This is very disturbing and we hope it does not happen. Such a measure, if adopted, can only lead to injuries and possible deaths, and an escalation of the protests. It has the tendency of turning the largely peaceful protests into a violent one.

We therefore urge the Federal Government to toe the line of engagement in dialogue, listening to the demands of the youth and other well-meaning Nigerians. We commend the government for acceding to the demands of the youth. Now, the whole country looks forward to practical steps that would be taken to implement them. We believe that a sincere and transparent response to the demands of the young people would go a long way in resolving the present impasse. The youths, on their part, must continue to go about their protests peacefully and not allow themselves to be led into any act of violence, no matter how small. We must all remember that the whole world is watching us to see how we handle this situation. We, therefore, call for dialogue and mutual understanding in addressing the situation at hand for the benefit of our young people and the future of our country.

I’m sure the Federal Government is wise enough to realize that using force won’t make things die down easily

Thank you Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins for standing for justice and fairness, at this time when many pastors have remained silent to the cries of the youth.

Hopefully the FG would be sensible enough to take your advice.

Nice one from the Archbishop.

Abeg, We are still moving...
Senators and all corrupt politicians in Nigeria,
Past and present,
APC or PDP.
NRC or SDP or APGA.

We are still coming for all of you,
Be ready......

For some fools and political party animals that think this protest is about one political party,
No, you are wrong.
The foundation of this nation has been destroyed for over 60 years now.
Now is the time to take it back.
We have been sitting on a time bomb few years into this Dem-all-Crazy since 1999.
We will visit all politicians that looted our past and future one by one.
They will all vomit the future they looted and chop anyhow.
Na turn by turn, Wait for your turn.
Naija youths ti take over

We have been sleeping for too long but now we’re awake! There’s no going back, we move!

The wide Bowl

This bowl is no longer mine,

was never so,

Let it go.

well worn before the oath,

A gift that despised the guardian,

Presented freely without a dowry.

used, and widened as i found.

too wide to keep a home.

insatiable, licentious and libidinous.

This bowl was scorned by many.

ere i fell a wandering,

a bait on my way, the sorrow on my path.

Let it go,

This bowl seeks for prey, and so was i for a time.

intent concealed in bareness,

desperate for the gift of the semen.

as adulterer urged rebellion by ignorance.

the rage, the rave of ego and bestiality.

deceived the Law for mere gain.

This bowl is broken cannot be fixed by logic.

this bowl is old, alluring by mascara.

This bowl was used,

i take exception on your list,

This bowl is free,

the next victim can explore.

the bowl is cheap,

forced a dowry to conceal the shame.

T'was sold for free at Ikoyi in may,

Who is next?

A thousand many had the bowl,

I played along for a time

ere this voyage of deceit,

I took a flight from my deep principle,

hoping to make a jewel from the Flesh.

This bowl is addicted to the red zones

Incurable addiction i recalled,

The friends,

The internet,

The phone,

The TV,

The cinema,

And tattling,

The routines of unending dark flights

Incorrigible,

Venomous.

You may have the bowl if you would.

This bowl is No longer mine.

Once a street bowl,

and always so.

Find the bowl in your homes,

Let's hope the bowl recovers.

but a broken bowl is irreparable by man
