It is now glaring that to reform the country, credible persons have to come in through election process, and largely through the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Since the formation of INEC, sitting presidents have been given the undue advantage to appoint INEC commissioners who eventually paly major role in the election outcome, thereby making INEC undependable. To stop this rather unprofitable approach and ensuring election are credible. The Electoral Act Bill has to be approved and the power of president to appoint commission has to cease. I suggest that INEC commissioner come from the ranks of INEC personnel and not someone with no experience in electoral process. The Uwais Panel made mention of this years ago, but nothing was done. |
