If he is not for the people, even the gods will abandon him. Yes they can invade the Oba of Benin's palace if he is anti people and they hate him that much. The power doesn't reside with the king or Oba but it is the collective faith of the people in the kingship that keeps the system going so the real power belongs to and resides with the people. I remembered the historical facts about the ominous warning the Premier of western region of Nigeria Chief Obafemi Awolowo issued to Oba of Benin to stir clear of partisan politics else he would find himself in a hard place.
