For students planning to study abroad the USA continues to be the top choice. Applying for US Student Visa is the main step if you are among the few who aspire and have already got admission into your aspired university, to realizing your Study in USA dream. The various types of visa are explained through this Students Visa Guide with an attempt to give a detailed process of applying for the F1 Student Visa.

Types of USA Study Visa
For the country USA there are three types of student visas:

1. F1 Student Visa
The F1 visa is required by the students applying for a program that requires more than 18 hours of study in a week which includes all undergraduate and graduate programs like MS, MBA, etc.

2. J1 Exchange Visitor Visa
Visiting scholars or lecturers pursuing an exchange program require the J-1 Exchange Visitor Visa. Many students will travel to the U.S on short-term study abroad programs or Fulbright scholars from Indian universities with a J-1 visa. Working professional who goes to America on an exchange program needs a J1 visa hence the name Exchange Visitor Visa. A 10-month vocational training or some research fellowship is included in this visa.

3. M-1 Vocational/ Non-Academic Student Visa
Reserved for vocational and technical schools is the M1 visa. the difference is that on entering the M1 visas are time-stamped while the process for applying to the F1 visa and M-1 is similar.
These visas are granted only and only if all the USA study Visa requirements are thoroughly fulfilled.

Studying and Working in US
For international students the cost of studying in the USA can be expensive and thus to work while studying can be helpful to reduce the cost of education. This will also provide you applicable work experience. Can I work in the USA while studying is what many international students wonder? The answer is while studying in the USA, the international students can work but there are some restrictions.
• In specified training programs the international students holding F-1 and M-1 visa are allowed to work on-campus. During their first academic year the students are not allowed to work off-campus. working in the library, cafeteria, or student center are the types of on-campus jobs that the students are allowed to do.
• After completing their first academic year students can gain employment off-campus. This is possible through Optional Practical Training (OPT) - programs specifically for international students seeking employment like, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Optional Practical Training Extension, and Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
• Allowing to work upto 12 months in USA on a temporary basis is Optional Practical Training (OPT) which can be completed both before and after completing your studies.
• International students are eligible to apply for 24-month extension of their post-completion OPT after completing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
• to gain work experience temporarily is the Curricular Practical Training program in which international students are directly related to their major through employment, paid or unpaid internships, or cooperative (co-op) education.
• While you are studying in the United States with some minimal restrictions you will be allowed to work. International students are assisted by most of the colleges and universities in finding employment on-campus and off-campus.
