Can We Chart A Course Of Ideas To #endbrutality? by Image123(m): 2:42am On Oct 30, 2020 |
i love Nigeria and i am of the opinion that Nigerians are one of the greatest people in the world. Nigeria and Nigerians are so blessed, so full of promise, but ever yet in the quagmire we all see. Both secular and religious people agree that Nigeria occupies a strategic place. But we remain perennial underachievers. Following the viral Endsars protests, it becomes more clear and pertinent that the youths again want CHANGE. Certainly, this is not the first clamour for change by Nigerians or by the young generation. The current APC-led government rode into power on the wheels of CHANGE. But things have not particularly changed, at least not evidently for the better. While there are many theories as to the situation we find ourselves, i believe we are not really hitting at the ROOT of the problem. While Nigeria is a very religious nation, it is not a very righteous nation. As i read through different platform and media, the root that keeps coming up is summarised in the below quote. IamD18: Many have suggested solutions to Nigeria's problem. Some say dissolve and divide it. Some have asked for a different party apart from APC and PDP, some have asked for youths to take over, many have even suggested restructuring. But do you notice that the average Nigerian is brutal and corrupt in his/her sphere? Great to stop SARS and police brutality. But do you notice Army brutality? Have you encountered VIO or FRSC or Custom brutality and corruption?Do you notice that the average Nigerian is brutal when given any form of power? Nigerian politicians are brutal to those beneath them. Go to Immigration and see brutality and corruption against the powerless that know no Oga at the top. Go to our Embassies and turn to our Lecturers for help. It is the same system. The "poor" is helpless against the powerful. It's not by young or old, Muslim or Christian, government or non-government, male or female, or even tribe. See the madam and her brutality and corruption to her housemaid. Observe the brutality of the average Nigerian proprietor to school staff. What of the boys collecting money daily from the bike man and from the bus driver. Are they not brutal and ruthless on the roads, breaking mirrors, pulling doors and seizing keys? They do much more. Go to any and every sector and you can readily observe the wickedness of the average Nigerian with some power on the powerless. How then do we end Nigerian brutality and corruption against Nigerians? What are the things that we can do as a nation, going forward? We may end SARS and SWAT and even get some money for people that were hurt. But how do we really tackle this problem that bedevils our citizenry? |

Like has been said, brutality is in the average Nigerian blood, not just SARS. The landlady will brutalize her tenant if she's connected enough. The average Nigerian mum will brutalise her househelp. The artisan oga will brutalise apprentices. |

The brutality you see in Nigeria is a learnt behaviour. There are many factors that caused this but let me focus on the solution. The youths are the hope of any country including Nigeria. But the youths of Nigeria today like all Nigerians of different age groups are not yet prepared thoroughly to CHANGE NIGERIA. To change Nigeria the youths must RE-EDUCATE themselves on Nigeria's history and Global history. This is because change doesnt first start with ACTION but with a common IDEOLOGY. what is this re-education about? The youths have to believe NIGERIA can WORK as it is, with all the tribes intact. Read the history of how south Africa was formed by the colonial masters, how Canada was formed, how China was formed and see that the way Nigeria was formed and the amalgamation of 1914 isn't unique to us alone and those countries above faced similar things and made a succes of it. They should read the history of how Europe fought 2 bitter world wars and how they have been able to form a unified state called the EU thereafter. Same applies with the USA and other countries and they are all a success story. The youths need to LEARN from HISTORY and not DWELL in HISTORY. Any political party formed by the youths should go about preaching this reeducation, changing mindsets until most of Nigerian youths can SEE A CLEAR VISION OF HOW THE NIGERIA OF THEIR DREAMS CAN BE FORMED. Nigerian youths also critically needs to learn to see beyond tribe, religion and money. These three things divides us as I speak and they play a big part in our politics. Here on nairaland the youths are ever divided by these things. The only criteria for any youth aspiring to public office in Nigeria should be credibility, sound micro and macroeconomic knowledge and accountability. Yes in that order and not tribe, religion or money. With these 2 points I have highlighted above, if Nigerian youths follow through, we can change the story of Nigeria for the better in a decade or two. Cc Image123 |
