LAGOS CBD TO RESUME FULL OPERATIONS ON THE ISLAND

---restate commitment to an improved business environment

The Office of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Central Business Districts has disclosed its readiness to resume full operations within the Lagos Island business district as it restated its commitment to the improvement of the business environment within all areas designated as business districts within the State.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Central Business Districts, Mr Olugbenga Olarenwaju Oyerinde disclosed this at a meeting with the management and Lagos Island operation officers of the Agency over the weekend.

Mr Oyerinde who decried the level of destruction of the agency office on the Lagos Island admonished the operatives not to be discouraged by the level of vandalisation perpetrated by hoodlums during the recent protest but be rededicated to duty.

He disclosed that despite the temporary setback caused by hoodlums, who hijacked the peaceful #EndSARS protests in Lagos to vandalize the Lagos Island Office, the Agency is ready to resume its statutory responsibility of providing conducive business environment for businesses to grow.

Mr. Oyerinde expressing sadness over the destruction of public and private properties across the State, including that of the Agency, disclosed that all the agency operational vehicles numbering over fifteen and power bikes used for patrol as well as its stores and offices were completely vandalized and office items charted away by the hoodlums.

While assuring that the destruction will not deter the Agency from its enforcement operations, he maintained that the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration is doing everything possible to return the State to normalcy, open up the economy for business to attract investors and create more employment for the teeming youths in Lagos.

The Special Adviser solicited the support of all stakeholders, especially traders, business owners, transport unions, motorist, visitors and residents in the management of the district by operatives of the Agency. He further appeal to Community development Associations, Transport unions and other stakeholders not to see the Agency as an enemy but a solution provider to the business District.

He advised those trading on roads, drainage alignments, walkways and pedestrian bridges as well as motorists and commercial drivers loading and offloading on the roads to move to designated market places and bus garages.

He said further, “I am appealing to all our stakeholders to cooperative and join hand with us. We will continue to ensure that the much cherished international standard that characterized the existence of Central Business Districts in developed cities of the world operate in our business districts, we are open to suggestions from our stakeholders and we are ready to push our operatives beyond limit to ensure fulfilment of set objectives”.
