“So, we are meeting again with ASUU soon, so that they can also hear that other unions in the university have developed their own payment system against UTAS. Do you now realize why we are tackling this problem holistically?”

The above mention simply shows that the matter is far from over.

ASUU should please consider the plight of disadvantaged Nigerian students and call off the strike immediately and keep on agitating for their interests. Everything in the country is falling apart.

You finally want collect education from Poor people where their children dey average academic wise.
What I think, Govt should increase spending for education and reduce the amount of recurrent expenditures of the NA and politicians.
Imagine ASUU asking for little 50 billion when Politicians salaries and what they steal at the National level is more than 200 billion.
I wonder how hard it will be for the FG to increase funding of Universities etc to over 200 billion naira yearly, with that we will favorably stand shoulder to shoulder with others top Universities in Africa. after all, even Custom makes more than 400 billion naira in just few months.

If FG and NASS agrees then that would be fine because even total budgeted allocation to Ministry of Education isn't even up to ₦50 billion

If not we need a new University funding model, and we must all make suggestions

This will be nice. Students should be ready to pay hundreds of thousands to access better education like they pay in countries like Benin Republic, etc.

naijadrivablog:
No be only HOLISTICALLY, na SINISTICALLY. sad

Why not give ASUU full autonomy so that schools can be run like a business, albeit regulated/subsized in a way to make it affordable

Since no venture run by Government of this country seem unprofitable and unimproved.

What Ngige is trying to say here is that "las las School na scam"

Maybe that's why the FG is not serious in negotiating the end of this strike

The Nigerian problem are too much.

The solution is EndNigeria.

Increased funding without checks and balance is akin to pouring water in a basket.

This Ngige has been very anti people since he resumed representing FG in negotiations. ASUU, NLC, PENGASSAN, Resident Doctors, etc have all embarked on industrial action but no situation improvement whatsoever.

When more is given to you, more is expected. so that being said, I'm sure they will be enough checks and balances

If ASUU is not ready to work, while some lecturers had joined the ippis; let FG take decisive action and employ new lecturers to fill the vacant of those tired lecturer who is only concerned with "give us money" but doesn't care about the career and lives of those they are impacting who are roaming around the streets now without direction.

Fall into opposition, you. Say No!
Even the president draw his salary from ippis. It is when you enter you will tell them all the allowances that you are entitled to and it would be keyed in but you went and brought new software for only yourself, so you want to further lockup the country, the country should stand still because of your selfish software. Why don't you introduce it to the government before they call you to join ippis.

Honestly, The government needs to teach them that they are the one who employ them haba

My question is can't the supposed multifaceted and holistic solutions be proffered while the students are in school. Why must the students pay for the iberiberism of ASUU et Federal Government?

Come to think of it, it is not everyone that can settle for blue and green collar jobs....

Give University full autonomy and stop funding them

Let all Funding be through Tuition fees, grants from research donors, SUPEB

Nigerian Students who passed Jamb and WAEC satisfactorily should be offered Government sponsored scholarship

Each Student getting scholarship should be reviewed every Academic session, if you don't meet up required grades let your parents pay your tuition fees themselves as charged by ASUU without wasting tax payers money on scholarship or subsidised education

.
ogbeni u said they should stop funding universities, u also said government should be giving out scholarships to students attending the same universities... Wetin u dey talk... How many parents can afford to pay 600k per year u sef reason am now... U don dey watch 2 many foreign movies

and what gives u the right to call someone olodo because of his/her IQ... if the suggestion you brought is to work then all systems in Nigeria must work too from health to power... I agree education needs funding and Nigeria universities are underfunded.... Jst dis year ASUU is asking for 20 billion naira for all universities in Nigeria and the federal government wants to spend 37 billion to renovate jst one national assembly building who are d olodo's here?

Both FG and ASUU are being completely honest with us. You can't seek for autonimity and still get your salaries paid by the government, that's arrant nonsense. FG, you can't tell the Academics to register under IPPIS before migrating to UTAS knowing that you've have a great track record of not keeping to your own part of any agreement. ASUU is selfish and strong headed, the FG on its part does not priotice Education and are also inconsiderate sets of idiots.
Need I say this, what has not been brought into consideration so far is the psychological implications of this prolonged on the student, whose plans and dreams are being played and gambled with on a table of lies, greed and deceit. Lastly all student government bodies have been proven to be useless......

University Autonomy aims to shield universities from direct political interference. That does not absolve the universities of checks by FG, as they're able to use the Governing Council (appointed by FG) & NUC (FG agency). Both have overwhelming control on the universities that is not necessarily political. Invariably, universities are under extended check of FG.

No University in the world is insulated from her governments funding because they are Autonomous. Not even Harvard.

By the time we start with you people,"holistically" will not be enough to save you.just as NANS has proposed, all economic activities would be locked down. To me,the 14days ultimatum given by NANS is too much. It should be 7days at most.

This is the first time Ngige has made any sense for a while - I support this holistic approach.

l though ASUU have bend to there demands excep from the Ippis and Utas issue... so let ASUU accept there salary with lppis for now before the Utas we be ready...they are matured enuf to understand each other..they literate not illiterate

The truth is Mr Ngige and Adamu have no stakes in Nigerian Education, since they don't have Children here!
How can a serious government locked up the Nation's Education to such a long period,claiming-ASUU,Covic-Pandemic,Protedst,IIP Utas-pay roll. This is absolute rubbish!
Questions we should be asking:
• What manner of Funds that ASUU is asking that is above the one being spent on Politics, campaign by Politicians, including the Labour and Education Ministries!
•Why are these two Ministers always talking Politics instead of reality in our education-Funding; Science and Technology; Research and Development, etc!
•Rather than engaged the ASUU as a body, you are always dictating and that manner of System- Operations has changed a long time!
Why is Ngige not engaging the ASUU Leadership, rather, you always take one step backwards-for instance why are you saying you want to merge the Unions,as if they were not registered? You people are the problems of our education.
So if ASUU is not in existence,no one can do what is right,a s Father's to the Children without Politicking!.America,Britain,China and Europe will not wait for Nigeria!Too bad!
