The Federal Government says there is the need to rebuild the trust between the government and the governed in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, said this during the Rebuild Lagos: Dialogue and Partnership event organised by the Lagos State Government to inaugurate the Eight-member Board of Trustees of Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund held at Ikeja. Osinbajo said that there was the need for government at all levels to rebuild the lost confidence with the people so as to forestall a repeat of the destruction witnessed in the country in the aftermath of the EndSARS protest.

He said that never should the carnage witnessed in Lagos be allowed to repeat itself. The vice president described the destruction as a national tragedy and a major setback for the country, adding that the bulk of income from non-oil products the country was getting came from Lagos State. “Never in the history of our nation has this former capital city, and our nation’s commercial nerve centre experienced such mindless acts of violence and the enormity of destruction that occurred. “Perhaps, it is worth emphasising that the destruction and disruption of life and work in Lagos is a national tragedy and a major economic setback for the nation, even as we face the most difficult economic challenges in our generation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We have seen how the noblest causes, such as the EndSARS protests designed to call attention to a serious malignant problem of brutality and extrajudicial killings, can be subverted, leading to the exact opposite of its objectives; chaos murder, looting, and arson. “So, we saw what can happen when the restraints of law and order are loosed and anarchy is given free rein. “These trying times offer an invaluable learning opportunity, a teachable moment, and it is the lessons we draw from this period that will shape our path going forward,´´ he said. Osinbajo urged the private sector to collaborate with the Lagos State Government to rebuild the state. “It is now time to rebuild. It is time for the painful and costly task of reconstruction and rehabilitation. “It is now time for the private sector, our international friends and partners, and all who love this city to make their contributions to the rebuilding and reconstruction effort.

When Lagos works, it works for all. “But it is clear that the task of reconstruction goes beyond physical infrastructure or brick and mortar. “There is a moral, social, and ethical reconstruction to be undertaken as well. We must rebuild trust between the government and the governed; the vast majority of who are young persons, rebuild trust between law enforcement agents and the communities that they are meant to serve. “We certainly cannot afford to alienate our young people who constitute the majority of our society and bear the burden of enterprise, resourcefulness and innovation required to propel our economy into the future. “For their sake and ours, we need broad-based and inclusive prosperity that creates opportunities on a scale commensurate with the aspirations of our population,´´ he said. Osinbajo said that beyond restoring what had been lost, the task before all was nothing short of the reformulation of the social contract.

This is slave mentality you are having.... Instead fighting for freedom u are vying for a tolerant master?? If PDP did not empower the millitary and NASS so stupidly, will APC, be this rogue?? If PDP did what was right, will APC be disgruntled and await their own time to share national cake ....Oga all of them are the same thing... I bet you give atiku one chance, and everything he did not do under Obasanjo he will do double the way buhari is doing now... You don't have shame, calling number two citizen, useless and your Uncles and aunts are his mate o.

If he is useless, people won't call him to address some issues even when his boss is there and there are a few instances of this. {https://www.nairaland.com/6260596/endsars-need-rebuild-trust-citizens}

Ogbeni..... Free all your talk.... How can the citizens trust you when their stomachs are empty while you all ball using tax layers money?

The way the people in the above video rushed FREE food given to them by FELLOW CITIZENS...... and considering the fact that your government has woefully failed to have any impact on the common man on the streets this period leaves us to wonder if there is another group of CITIZENS you are referring to.

Osinbajo for 2023, he is always speaking the truth.

No one should come and shout youths are taking over in my ear o. I have seen youths who held some leadership position and did nothing. Even SUG and faculty president are office of thieves, ordinary course rep back then in my school was so corrupt, we had to impeach him.
Ordinary protest, we begin loot shop, Make Osinbajo or Amaechi just contest, nothing will make me vote any youth that I know nothing of.
Age is not a criteria for good governance, we have to look at personality

Yada yada yada.

The protests were peaceful.

Your government then introduced thugs to discredit them and give you reason to impose a curfew.
Your sponsored hoodlums attacked in places like Orile etc.
Your boyboy governor then invited soldiers to attack Lekki, the one place where the protests were highly peaceful and organized.
Your sponsored thugs went berserk. They turned back and lashed out.
Everywhere begins to boil.
You then tell us you're with us. You print out tweets and pose for the camera.
Then, after the dust settles, you call the protesters terrorists. You freeze their accounts and drag them to court using proxies.
While we still reel, you reimplement the electricity tariff hike you promised to backtrack on.
You renege on the promises already made to ASUU when you needed the young ones off the streets.
While we still groan, you increase the price of fuel, few months after you told us subsidies are over. What changed - the price of oil?

Were you not the one that promised us you'll fight to restructure the polity? Now, you would have none of it. You now tell us restructuring is no longer needed. Apart from your attaining the office of VP, what has changed?

Were you not the one that promised to reform SARS years ago. If that was done, would it have gotten to this?

Now you look us in the face and tell us you are rebuilding trust, when all you have ever done is stab us in the back.

Fine. We have heard you. And we have turned our back on you. Stab away like you've always done. What else can we do?

Sir, tell Buhari that he leads a very incompetent and sectionalistic government in the history of Nigeria. Your government should wake up to its responsibilities or resign.

What you all need to do is simple.

Be the public servant that you are and do your respective jobs.

What is the defense that a panel on SARS reform was set up in 2018, then it submitted its report in June 2019 to a sleeping President, but nothing was implemented from the report as at October 2020?

Must there be anarchy until you public servants are alive to your responsibilities, despite the generous financial compensation?

Can the lives lost to police brutality between June 2019 to October 2020 due to Presidential uselessness and inefficiency, be replaced or restored.

Can you, a pastor, bring back the dead?
