The only winners in all this police and military brutality are the politicians. They allow police and army to do as pleased so as to ensure no one can revolt against them. This is the old trick used by the old corrupt politicians to rule this country. If the military and the police are being sanctioned for their brutalities, it means the citizens can stand up against their opression. Then, empowering the citizens means they can also revolt against the politicians when they are not delivering on their promises. It is not a coincidence that the atmosphere where there is a widespread corruption, there is also a rampant military and police misconduct. So you see the logic why police and military brutalities are not going anywhere in Nigeria anytime soon. |
