The National Boundary Commission, NBC, has commenced fieldwork on the border communities of Imo and Rivers state.

The NBC, led by the Director General, Surveyor Adamu Adaji, yesterday spoke while flagging off the joint field team for Imo and Rivers at Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo state.

He said that both Imo and Rivers field team were expected to thoroughly give accurate data on the inter-state boundary. An exercise he said would last for two months.

Some of the affected local government areas, Adaji, mentioned in Imo and Rivers state included “Oguta, Ohaji/ Egbema, Owerri West, Ngor- Okpala and Ndoni, Emuoha, Ikwerre, Etche, Egbema respectively.

We charge the members to discharge their duties with the utmost sense of professionalism and commitment as well as to come up with comprehensive data for the definition of the inter-state boundary,” Adaji said.

A situation where half of Egbema is in Imo state(Ohaji-Egbema LGA) and the other half is Rivers state(Egbema Ndoni LGA) is just strange.

In reality, Egbema, Obigbo and Etche should all have been in Imo state. Thats where they all were before being carved into Rivers state

Op how true is this news? If true then its a welcome development. Just as Akwa-Ibom got their territories back from Cross River then Imo can recovers theirs from Rivers.

I wholeheartedly support this legal move.

Not really Ikwerre, but LGA’s of the affected law suit. The NBC might not affect much change unless Imo state takes the bull by the horn by ensuring that only communities of the original 1966 Gowon created Rivers state stays with the South-South. The rest joins the former East Central State now SE zone.

Igbos have to be vigilant in this demarcation because now that Imo state is getting a lot of oil and gas investments lately, some people are not comfortable with it and may try to cede the entire Ohaji/Egbema local government area to Rivers State or at least those areas that have abundance of oil and gas deposits. Nyesom Wike is a very ambitious expansionist and he has deep pockets to influence the boundary adjustment.

Only Elele, Omarelu and communities close to it within the Ikwerre LGA’s axis comes close to identifying with the SE. But the Igbophobic Ikwerre’s have turned their heads around. So those ones might remain where they are. Methink what the NBC means here is disputed oil wells between Imo and Rivers not the totality of LGA’s per say.

As far as we are concerned, it is about oil wells that is due for imo state been given to Rivers state

Hope is gearing towards recovering their oil wells from Rivers state.

That's the reason behind this.

Yeah, the headline is not in tune with the news article. Oil wells is what the NBC is talking about I guess. Only when Imo and Abia form a joint suit to sue Rivers state to court can they win back the territories in the former old east central state.

Not half. 4 clans are in Rivers State while 10 are in Imo State. Egbema has a total of 14 clans.

Someone reading this headline will know that you are way below 20 years.

The survey is just geared to dermacate Imo state and Rivers state boundaries properly and not sort of that gibberish headline .

You are misleading the public to the real course of actions NBC embarked on such field survey.
