Why Igbos Prosper Under Bad Economy - Reno Omokri. by Masterclass32: 8:58am On Nov 27, 2020
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has revealed the secrets to the success of the Igbos of Nigeria under any bad
economy.

This comes as the country recently swung into its worst-ever recession in 36years.

According to data from the NBS and World Bank, the country’s gross domestic product contracted for the second consecutive quarter since the recession of 2016, the worst since 1987 when GDP declined by 10.8 per cent. Nigerian leaders have cited the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the major reasons for the plunge, including the #EndSARS violence which some blamed as well.

However, Omokri is of the belief that the Igbos always prosper no matter how bad an economy is because of their reliance on their productivity. He also added that they are able to thrive under bad weathers because their prosperity is not tied to oil, which is the country’s major source of revenue or the government. The secret to that, Omokri said, is their resilience.

“No matter how bad the economy, Igbos always prosper. What is the secret of their resilience? Wherever they are, their prosperity is not tied to oil or government, but to their productivity. Igbos are prosumers, who produce more than they consume.”

Omokri once said the Igbos are the engine of the vehicle called Nigeria. He said this against the backdrop of electoral malpractices that greeted the 2019 general elections in Nigeria where according to him, the treatment meted out to the Igbos especially in Lagos, was worse than the rigging perpetrated by Muhammadu Buhari and his co-travellers.

“The ethnic hatred unleashed in Lagos probably set back inter-tribal relationships by about a decade. Thugs were unleashed on Igbo dominated strongholds in Lagos and voters were beaten and prevented from voting. All these were captured on camera, yet sadly, maltreatment of persons of Igbo heritage predictably went unnoticed by the Federal Government.

“Even worse, the public comments of people in authority, both in Lagos and Abuja, appeared to legitimize these unconscionable actions. The behaviour of the Federal and Lagos state government in this matter almost seems as if it is now official government policy that Igbos are second class citizens. How sad indeed.

“I personally do not believe that the Nigerian and Lagos state governments fully understand what Igbos bring to the table. Igbos are like palm trees in the desert. If you see palm trees, you know water is there. If you see an Igbo in a town, you know progress is there. Not as if they go where progress is. They themselves are seed of progress that yield harvests of progress.

“To have a proper understanding of what the Igbo have achieved, consider that every Igbo man, woman and child in Nigeria was reduced to £20 after the civil war in 1970. But look at how far they have come since then. They turned adversity to prosperity. No ethnic group are as Nigerian as the Igbo. An Igbo builds his family, his house and his businesses in whatever part of Nigeria he finds himself. They do not exploit other regions. They expand other regions. It is a disservice to treat them as unwanted,” he said.

Not far from the truth.. ppl that survived the blockade, endless artillery fire ,bombing and straffing and all manner of extermination methods, for ,3 good years..., bounced back almost immediately after the war and shook it off as though nothing happened.

These recessions , bad governance etc are just a walk in a breezy park for them..

But they're already developing their Homeland? No federal government presence in the SE which has forced many Igbos out of their region and coupled with the civil war that destroyed their cities and wiped out their economy yet they are doing relatively better than other Nigerians.

If he was I wouldn't have an issue with him but it's obvious he is just riding on the igbo/PDP affiliation coattails.
The youths in the creeks are getting restless, his monarchs were recently rubbished by the new fulani on the block, Gambari, but Reno is a typical Nigerian politician, telling us about Political thugs that we still saw during the #ENDSARS protest represents Yoruba's , he has somehow made it Yoruba vs Igbos issue,(from his initial 'complement')
We are in a very critical time in this country, especially for Southerners, as 2023 and a united Nigeria continually seems like a mirage

Just psyching up his party's stronghold.

The reason given here applies far more to Hausa's than Igbo's. They supply food which is essential part of life. Cut out oil money and they will be feeding but Igbo's will say customer no grew come o.

The envy many Nigerians have towards Igbos is largely borne out of jealousy. I will give you an example. If you're rich, young and successful, go and live in an environment where most people are poor, suffering and hopeless, and see how they will hate you for no reason.

Go to the North and see Igbos owning the only big shops or supermarkets in their small towns and villages. Owning the only building materials or chemist shop. Providing services the locals can provide themselves at cheap rates and still cashing out. Living in decent houses and riding cars in the midst of poverty.

Go to the West and see them owning the businesses while the natives rely on civil servants salary or taxi driver jobs. While government will be delaying or paying them half their salaries, Igbos will be providing vital services and earning good profits in return. These are the basic things that bring envy on the Igbos. It's a sad reality.

Igbos are the most gullible people who enjoy their mumu button being squeezed and pressed heavily by sycophants.

It is a fact but I have never read from Reno that Igbos are the most poverty stricken people in the South of Nigeria but it is a general knowledge...according to World bank,UNDP,NBS...have become the 2019/2020 poorest in the South.

Reno does not do this to Yorubas who have been the richest and most successful Nigerians
before and since the advent of Nigeria both at home and abroad.Reno knows his onions surely.

The truth is that the igboman doesn't really care about who rules ,just make the ground level for competition and opportunities.. its the way hausas and yorubas carry on with the presidency matter, mocking and treating others as second fiddlers , that's where the problems emanate from..

Now,the right thing (perhaps the next right thing) must be done ,or we remain in centrifugal motion.. Reno has already given us an insight as to who has a better adaptation to centrifugal motions..

Before an Igbo man drops dead because of buharinomics, most folks in this country will already be dead.. Take that to the bank. Inflation respects no gender, tribe nor religious group.. Buharis dumb economic policy will contract importation but it can't stiffle demands for basic essentials like food items, clothes, shoes etc.. People will squeeze to buy, maybe not as much as before, but folks will still buy enough to keep the markets running.. And since manufacturing is nearly dead here, importers will break even, even if tight.. I import at an exhorbitant rate, I will simply offset my overbearing overhead by a little mark up in price! You will buy because you don't have any serious alternative really..., And don't forget, any serious importer must have built a serious relationship with his suppliers outside. That means you can get a sizeable amount of your stock shipped to you upfront before remittance of proceeds.. The calculated onslaught against traders is nothing but a double edged sword. . .
Buharinomics ko!? Ruganomics ni!?
