The interim chairman of the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Abbas, has replied to comments made by a former governor of the state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, concerning the 2023 governorship election in the state.

Recall that Mr Kwankwaso had said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would not allow a repeat of the 2019 governorship election in which the election was declared inconclusive even as the PDP candidate was leading with 26,655 votes.

Responding, the APC chairman boasted that the party would “rig” the 2023 governorship election and nothing would happen.

Mr Abbas, while addressing the party members during the swearing-in of the caretaker executive members of the APC on Tuesday at state Government House, added that party would use the same mechanism it employed in “rigging” the Gama Ward rerun.

Recall that the said rerun at Gama Ward of Nassarawa Local Government Area of the state was widely condemned over alleged vote buying, harassment and other irregularities.

Using vulgar words, Mr Abbas also incited the APC members not to be merciful to and Kwankwasiyya Group member, physically or over the radio, emphasising that the 2023 election would be war.

“Kwankwaso said 2023 governorship election would be do-or-die. Ok, we are ready for that. We are not cowards. We are ready for the war. We are not afraid of death.

“To our party loyalists, don’t condone Kwankwaso and his supporters, if they abuse you over the radio or physically, don’t be merciful to them.

“Let me tell you that we will rig the 2023 election and nothing will be done. We will replicate what we did in Gama Ward come 2023 and nothing would be done. This is our time. This is our government,” Mr Abbas stressed.

The interim APC chairman also accused Mr Kwankwaso of “unlawfully acquiring houses belonging to the state government”, alleging that the former governor and the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abba Yusuf, were living in houses belonging to the state government.

Also speaking, the Speaker, state House of Assembly, Hamisu Chidari, stated that the APC would not only allow the election results to be inconclusive, but would win with a landslide, urging the party members to rise up to face the challenges ahead squarely.

This is our time. This is our government,” Mr Abbas stressed.
