Litmus:Building Nigeria starts from the restructuring of individual/personal resources.... this is what leads to external development you see around you. What do you expect to see in a country where the government neither has plans for the future nor interested in its immense development? Blame chronic corruption. An average politician or influential boss is selfishly corrupt in this country. What then do you expect of struggling population who also want to fulfill purpose while eradicating poverty from their families? Also, different individuals leave Nigeria for different reasons. •Some are fed up and are not really interested in Nigeria affairs. Some just want to find a way to fulfill ambition. Anyhow, the goal of everyone is to leave the government forsaken country when the opportunity arises. The lady in question is comfortable enough to have said what she said. |

Why I don't believe in Stay back and Contrubute to the Development of Nigeria I just read this story by Ms. Fatima and I laugh hysterically, not at her story because like every individual she is entitled to her opinion and I appreciate that a lot, however the comment of some Nigerians here who vow never to leave Nigeria because according to them, they want to contribute to its development. What exactly do you want to specifically do? What do you know Nigeria really need? Do you think you have the required practical knowledge to achieve that? Do you have the right exposure to effectively coordinate such development? At what level(s) do you plan to contribute your quota? Do you have the requisite resources to effectively do you so? Do you have the right mindset to sensitize others and develop your street, talk less of your village/town? Do you have the enabling environment to achieve the kind if development you seek to achieve at any level? Nigerians need to know that the development of Nigerians at the level it is has been largely due to Nigerians in diaspora some of whom have returned to setup small businesses that have scalled to become big brands. Some have been able to bring big brands into Nigeria, creating jobs for several unemployed youth across the country. This they might never have achieved if they choose to stay back! Go and look at the history of fast developing and developed nations around the world, they all have things in common...their people went out and studied how others are developing, focused on soft skills they can contribute back and brought back big investors who were initially sceptical about doing business in their home countries. There is nothing wrong in staying back in Nigeria if you or your limited resources(at the moment), confined you to that space but don't deceieve yourself with the you want to stay back to develop if you do not have the capacity to do so. To develop Nigeria, you need first a total mindset change, then knowledge of emerging market dynamics, then resources to mention but a few - you can easily achieve these things if you leave Nigeria. Sadly to achieve this in Nigeria you need to be working in a sane multinational company, dissasociate with family and close friends and almost behave like a mad person because people will not understand you any more, then one day like many who have moved out of Nigeria decide that Naija is not for you. My point is you don't need to be in Nigeria to develop Nigeria, most of the big business owners in Naija the Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, Mike Adenugas may not be in Nigeria as you read this, but are making impacts, creating jobs...ofcourse due to the enabling environment created by the government. Startups like Gokada and the likes had owners who were not Nigerians or living in Nigeria but were able to thrive(until government policies clamped their business). In the end, you can be in Naija in the name of 'I want to stay back to develop my country' and not even be able to make any visible impact in your street and someone else will be in the diaspora and setup small businessses for unemployed youths, drive development and even bring project to their communities like Assisat the footballer did! 1 Like 1 Share |

isthatso:mumu people. Childish stupid fantasies. You will grow up to have sense in the future. Canada and America are overhyped shitholes. Only idiots in their 20's can be fooled. Nigeria is a trillion times better than Canada where over 85% of their population are depressed due to the lies sold to them as dreams 1 Like |

timesup234: There is nowhere without problems and certainly a foreign land will never be like home but there are many more depressed people in Nigeria, it's just that because of our culture we dont talk about these things. Nigeria is a sinking ship, if you like stay and drown, if you like leave, thats your business but you wont say you werent warned. |

PatriotExact: Unhappy? Oh not at all. I actually feel sorry for you that you now have to settle for less. The knowledge that people like Dr. Fatima are way out of your league must hurt really bad. |

ModestGal: I'm telling you the absolute truth, hon. I detest lies and liars, which is why I chose Litmus. I have these distant relatives, as I have said, that we brought over to the UK and they are as poor as the average poor Nigerian. And they have not liked the Uk. They found the life dull and boring, they hated the uk. One had the opportunity to marry someone in the UK for papers and she refused. She turned down the offer flatly in spite of being begged. |
