The two are totally different in meaning but a person can serve in both capacities.

From the beginning all intelligent beings (angels and humans) are God's children but after some of God's children became rebels the challenge to prove oneself set in.

Each of us have to prove himself/herself to know where God will place each one. Serving someone entails doing the will of that person, Jesus volunteered to come down and teach us how to reconcile with our heavenly father.
Note that God's word referred to Jesus as both Servant of God {Act 3:13 compared to Isaiah 52:13, 53:11} and Son of God {1John 4:9} this is because Jesus emptied himself and took up the form of a servant {Philippians 2:7} though he's the one and only creature who has always proved to be a true child of God by doing his father's will all the time! John 8:28

As sinners who need to regain our sonship with our heavenly Father we need someone who will serve as a visible role model, Adam supposed to do that but he's the same person who rebelled against God in the beginning and brought sin and death upon all of us {Romans 5:12} So we need another perfect human who will replace Adam and SERVE as a role model in our midst. That's what Jesus came to do, after sacrificing his perfect human life Jesus opened the way for all those who believe in him to serve God with faith and be reconciled back to God as CHILDREN! John 1:12

So if you're serving God today as a Christian believe in your heart that God has approved you to be called one of his Sons as you believe in Jesus!

Yes indeed, we are - only by GOD's love, grace, everlasting mercies, power, and Personal sacrifice - children/sons of GOD.

Paul, in Romans 1:1, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit describes himself as a "bondservant" of the Lord JESUS CHRIST. A bondservant is "one bound to service without wages also; a slave." This applies to every true believer in CHRIST because even though GOD gives us reward/all things... we serve GOD in newness of spirit not expecting any wages, because He has purchased us "with His own blood" , so we are His to unequivocally serve.

So we are slaves to, and of CHRIST because it denotes humility - GOD resists the proud [James 4:6], and because:

We do not expect to receive reward when we work for GOD (even though HE elevates us beyond imagination and gives us rewards in CHRIST for obedience, etc)
We, if we truly belong to CHRIST, HE will never let us go! ( John 6:37-39, John 10:29, Ephesians 4:30). So in that sense, we are bound to Him... His bondservants, His bride [Ephesians 5:27, Revelation 21:9]

It is an honor, privilege, and pleasure to be saved by, and belong to GOD eternally in whatever capacity! GOD is good! - Psalm 73:1

Jesus is our big brother in the big family of God.
Accepting him gives us access into Divine Union.
He is not ashamed to call us his brothers.
He took our sins nailed it to the cross and gave us his Righteousness.
So we're children of God.
Our sonship will fully manifest at his second coming.

True Christians are both servants and children of God!

Hence they worship God as His servants and also have a relationship with Him as His children.

Some only talk about relationship these days and it hasn't helped Christianity much because worship is also very crucial.

Jesus fell on His face and worshipped the Father to lead by example even though He was His only begotten Son.

If we don't follow His example and worship Him as Jesus did, it would lead to abuse of relationship and taking of God for granted as is the case with many Christians today.

God never gave religion to men; He disavowed those of Old who chose religion over His Law - Ezekiel 34 vs 1 - 31. So anyone who adopts religion pretty much abandons God altogether. Your religion distances you away from God and His Truth — antiChrist.
