I have been wondering why January is different from other months in Africa. Is it the same in abroad? Why do we always complain that January has more days? I will appreciate if people in diaspora can say something about this topic.

Average Africans would have spent his or her salary or profits from business in December forgetting January is a month to pay school fees, house rent etc.

Let us share our thoughts.

January is only stereotyped xpecialy by Nigerians; not diff frm evry other months. Reckless spendings leads to 'unecessary' rants, complains in january.

1. Financially: people are broke after spending laulau and there are a lot of bills to pay

2. Physchologically: After detty Decembering for two weeks, it is an anti-climax to start serious work again. For those still going to work, it was more of flexing with less traffic, work load etc.

3. Socially: Going from a full house (extended family & friends) and partying to family/home alone.

4. Mental/Emotional: the beauty of the environment and the season which makes you happy/ calm/ jolly. The Carols make you feel like you are in heaven.

Infact, January is like a morning hangover after a hard night of partying.

Looking forward to December 2021 by God's grace.

Na for people wey like stress.... My family and I didn't do any form of celebration during Christmas and New year,we ate the normal food in our time table, nothing happened.We didn't visit anyone and no one visited us.We are fine....



But money for most bills to be paid in 2021 is very much intact.Even few days ago,I bought one fat broiler from the market at #6000, the woman was lamenting that she had sold similar ones #12000 during the festive season and that customers were even begging for it but then she didn't finish the sales.So I enjoyed that one.


Nigerians we too like copy copy.... it's JESUS birthday not ours...

The problem is poor budgetting

We spend alot in celebrating Christmas only to suffer in January

But the way I am seeing things is different. Some christians are so much believe that they must spend during Christmas and New Year period forgetting January. It is a poor preparation and bad spending. I remembered in 2019, I bought 2 chicken as low as N4,000.00 while other are buying a single chicken for N5,000. We too dey form in Nigeria.

Apart from Christmas and New Year, why do we spend too much money on christening, burial, wedding etc in Nigeria. Is it our culture to be wasting money on all these or just to show that I have arrived. Some will even involve in borrowing from Lapo, cooperative etc. It is the same period landlords will increase house rent.

It is well.

Single guys like me don't see any difference. I spent Christmas in my house, eating my local rice and tomato stew with chicken. After which I watched movies, called my parents and friends to wish them Merry Christmas and slept off towards midnight.

26th was also a public holiday. I spent it indoors as well. Had some friends who came visiting towards evening and entertained them with local rice and the leftover tomato stew I made on the 25th.

How then will my January be any different?
