Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday, revealed why it rejected some suspects brought to its Mokola and Iyaganku Divisional detention facilities by some operatives of Amotekun.

According to the Command, the reason was due to their differences in policies and Modules Operandi guiding their operations.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Fadeyi Olugbenga, made this disclosure in a statement on Tuesday.

He explained that the Nigeria Police force as an organization is jurisdiction sensitive and structured in such a way that offences committed in a particular Area of Responsibility (AOR) cannot be treated in another, as this is done for efficiency and accountability sake.

His statement reads, “The news making the rounds about their refusal to admit the robbery suspects brought by Amotekun was obviously fake news to illustrate that the Police is uncooperative towards jointly combating crime with the said body.”

“The Command is committed towards partnering with sister agencies and local security outfits towards bringing the level of crime to the barest minimal in the State.”

He further explained that the Amotekun operatives had earlier visited Mokola Division where they were advised to the best of the knowledge of the receiving officers and with the information at their disposal that the Division with the AOR to best handle the case is Iyaganku Division.

He however, said that the Amotekun officers, upon getting to Iyaganku Division, the officers at the receiving end after critically analyzing the story taking its origin into consideration did not reject the suspect but directed that the suspects be taking to Agodi Division, a directive that was disregarded which led to the misconception making the rounds.

He noted that some of the suspects arrested and brought to the station by some security operatives are usually brought in terrible conditions and therefore are not admissible for detention in Police custody.

Lastly, Fedeyi called on men of various security operatives within the State to desist from inflicting serious bodily damages to suspects.

Amotekun act should include building detention station and court under state government act

For Police to accept the victims, the victims must not be tortured. Otherwise, both the Vigilante and the suspect should be detained.

Remember, it's international convention.

I think the SW governors should empower the Amotekun corps to prosecute any suspect arrested within the jurisdiction of their respective states.

I don't see the federal police cooperating with Amotekun in the nearest future. NPF may see Amotekun as rivalling its constitutional duty thereby frustrating all their efforts.

You don't expect police to accept badly wounded criminals into their custody because of fear of death... Should they die and it turns out they were innocent , Police might get the blame and their stations burnt

Wahala just wear clothes. You don't expect police to keep badly injured suspect that will die in custody.
Amotekun will say we handed the suspect to the police. People will be shouting extra judicial killing.
