Introduction
Now this word, "fornication" was hardly used in the old testament, and whenever it was used it was to show a lack of commitment.

The word mostly used, like in the ten commandments, is adultery–you shall not commit adultery.

Adultery commonly means sleeping with another’s wife or husband. Adultery basically shows a breakage of commitment and taking what belongs to another.

So in simple terms to differentiate;

Fornication is a lack of commitment while Adultery is breaking commitment.

When we see in scripture this phrase, God hates divorce Malachi 2:16, it is stating that God hates when commitment or a covenant is broken.

That's why you will see in the bible about not forgetting nor neglecting the wife of thy youth.

God values commitment and this is something lust lacks, because lust is a selfish feeling.

Fornication in a way refers to a practice done by heathens, like free sex, sex for all, sex party, and I used to define fornication as sex for fun.
So you see people gather in a place like a temple and have sex with each other, like worship each other's body, etc. (If you have ever watched Vikings during their ritual ceremony they drink and sleep with whoever they desire or lust for–fornicate)


That's why fornication and idolatry are usually mentioned side by side; a love of self or what some call self love, worship and focus only on flesh, where no one's committed to anyone and there are no responsibilities–things you see in marriage and a serious relationship or courtship.

Are such things practiced today? Yes

Okay let's look further into it a bit

The word fornication bears similar derivation to the word "Indecency", which has come to mean the following; harlotry, adultery as a term for infidelity or lack of faithfulness, basically sex without morals or reservation (sexual immorality as stated in the torah–incest, family relations etc, it's the spirit of lust and fornication that drives one even to have sex with animals)

If you have ever watched porn before you will realize how there is no commitment or even words nor comment between both parties. They just meet and have sex, to some that's pleasurable but to others is just plain boring.

We see that fornication is just pleasure for the sake of pleasure, and that's what makes it wrong, a sin, it cares for nothing else but one's personal drive.
It's the prime example of selfishness and lust.

When Paul lists the fruit of the Spirit he starts with love. When he lists the works of the flesh, he starts listing characteristics of lust; adultery, fornication, immortality, sensuality, indecency, carnality... Things John calls the lust of the flesh.

A church where there is love, you will also experience joy, peace, patience, kindness etc, but where you see factions, envy, jealous, malice, wrath, fighting, division, hatred, selfishness etc it is always as a result of the presence of witchcraft and idolatry because lust lies in the hearts of the leaders, members, or even workers.
