Oh no. Just like your other post was not at all insulting, neither was my last post in which I reacted to it.

Let me say this: you had a former room mate while in school who is now a pharmacist. And his experience is basically what you are using to judge the entire body of pharmacists of about 15,000 in the country. Right? Just one person. One pharmacist.

Now I understand where you're coming from. But for the benefit of the Op and others who might be interested in the topic I am going to add a number of weblinks below that seek to present how much Nigerian pharmacists earn monthly for the different practice areas.

https://costfinderr.com/salary-of-pharmacists/
https://nigeria.paylab.com/salaryinfo/pharmaceutical-industry
https://nigerianinfopedia.com.ng/pharmacist-salary-structure-in-nigeria/
https://www.payscale.com/research/NG/Job=Pharmacist/Salary
https://nigerianprice.com/pharmacists-salary-in-nigeria/

I need to point out that I am not responsible for the information on these web pages. But what I know is how much I earn monthly and how much is earned by several dozens of pharmacists practicing in different areas in the country also earn. And if I am to present some of these figures some people here would never believe it.

Primase:

You are yet to make a point. Why the insults? I didn't not insult you but rather debunked your claims and if you feel that I misconstrued your statement, you would have corrected me instead. I felt in love with pharmacy in my 100L in the university not because of the salary but because of the business opportunities ( I like business). I am in no away watering down pharmacy but my room mate right from school is a pharmacist and I know how much salary is involved in the profession.

I made a mistake by assuming that you meant ₦500,000 at entry level but you could have corrected me instead of the name calling.

I asked the question because I thought you have something that I don't know of. Learn to be patient with people even if they have a contrary view to yours.

Tall dream! No pharmaceutical company pays a pharmacist N500,000 at entry level. We don't even have industries in Nigeria. Recently, they employ them as Medical Representatives and the starting salary is less than ₦150,000 and a good part of the pay will come from meeting sale's target. Biochemistry, Microbiology and Human physiology graduates can be recruited to do the job.

Just like you rightly stated, the money-making opportunity for a pharmacist is in the business area. However, they are in stiff competition with chemists.

I asked this question because the job industry is dynamic and a graduate of Soil science can secure a job in audit firms, get MBA and ICAN and become a tax manager with a mouth-watering salary that even a pharmacist in the hospital or industry will never dream of.

I am a Biochemist and I work in a beverage company here in Nigeria and my annual salary and allowances is close to 10 million and I have just 1-year experience.

That is why big multinationals do not ask you field-based questions during job aptitude test. Your Quantitative, Verbal, Numerical and Abstract reasoning skills are tested because that is a true test of intelligence.

Even a chief pharmacist in the hospital doesn't come close to a management trainee in a good organization (who may have studied Agronomy with 2.1) in terms of salary.

It all boils down to being exceptional at whatever you do and making good use of every opportunity.

No course is more lucrative than the other.

You see, I have chosen not to argue with your claim of making 10 million annually as a biochemist working in a beverage industry. Why? Because that would be pointless. The question however is, are you practicing in that company as a biochemist? In the case of pharmacist we are talking about people who practice as a pharmacist. Otherwise, I could have added pharmacists working outside of pharmacist practice who make your annual salary every single month. I omitted those because it is not peculiar to pharmacy. There are probably historians who make your annual salary in one month.

There is such a thing as average. Not individual experiences, but average.

From a random selection of 10,000 biochemists practicing biochemistry in Nigeria (not medical biochemistry), how many make at least N100k monthly at entry level? I am sincerely not sure the number will reach 30 % This link puts the entry level salary for biochemistry graduate at N42,000.

https://facts36.com/biochemist-salary-in-nigeria/
https://www.mysalaryscale.com/salary/biochemist--t

Now how many entry level pharmacists of randomly selected 10,000 earn a minimum of N100k monthly? I am sure that figure is not less than 95 %.

@ OP, have you considered studying Food Science & Technology? Food is very essential in our daily lives, you know. Food Science & Technology is a Course that can take you to great heights. You can work with many government agencies like NAFDAC, SON, Agriculture Departments, Confectioneries, Nestle, Cadbury, Rite Foods etc. If you are bold enough, you can start your own food processing company or Snacks Company cool cool cool cool. No one can look down on you if you are producing Snacks and Food Products. Food and Drinks are NEEDED by human beings everyday. Cheers.

Good one.

But you are one person out of thousand biochemists in the country. It is the average experience that is the better indicator of remuneration when making career decisions. That average experience assures the individual of a minimum quality of life. The maximum indicates the potential and is never unique to any particular profession. The man who does my construction works I believe should make between N100 and 200k monthly but that doesn't paint what the picture is for the generality of construction workers.

Who told you there is no future in it. There is no job without a future. I have friends who studied the course and they are doing excellently well.
Microbiology is not as lucrative like Pharmacy but funnily they have vast opportunities to work in more firms or industries even without connection or godfatherism than pharmacy.

A microbiologist can work in a hospital, laboratory, research institute, pharmaceutical companies, agencies like Ncdc, Naca, Ndlea, Ministry of health or any health sector..etc, for those that are specialised under the medical aspect of Microbiology.

We have the food microbiologist that can work in companies such as Nigeria breweries, Guiness, agricultural firms, nafdac, standard organisation of Nigeria, etc, even in borders and seaports (customs, Port Heath authority), anywhere where food, drink, toiletries or drugs is being produced or processed, etc.

There is also the environmental microbiologist that works in oil, gas and petroleum companies. These ones controls detect and monitors oil spillage in the environment. Many work with govt agencies such as Nesrea, nosdra, etc.
Microbiologists are in most companies in and outside the shore of the country because of the diversity of their course. So pls do not say there is no future in it. Every course has a future.
I laugh and smile when I read this, I am a microbiologist with a good result from UNILAG, don’t explain to me what I am experiencing firsthand.

With the pandemic outbreak I see a bright future for microbiologist or may be nano biologist. Cause research centers will sprung out and Vaccine and immunity institute will start emerging. Sop there is light at the end for microbiologist.

Also statistics and data analysis will be a lucrative one too since the world is going data with the introduction of 5G, etc
there is always a prospect but not in Nigeria because truth be told, Nigeria attitude to research is poor. Trust me, a lot of practicising mobs would tell you same thing I am telling you

Well, yes but depends on what you mean by valued.

To excel in tech is not really about certificate though there're world class certificate like OSCP, and co but what's important is the application of your skills and portfolio.

Mechanical, electrical, and/or computer engineering for me. But all subjects or majors are just as important.

Be ready to learn two things at the same time, but not in an inefficient manner. If you choose one, choose another one that can complement each other. You can be an expert in one but the other one can help the first one or vice versa. If you are an electrician/engineer and you know database or more, it can help you, and many more complementary meshing of subjects. No be everybody fit diverse, so move according to your capacity.

If reliable electricity becomes a norm in Nigeria or Africa, many job opportunities will arise from all fields.

The most important part is that you need to be open to learning anything at any age. Put your mind on available status on educating yourself; but don't be overwhelmed, too confused, or inefficient in your knowledge. Am in my 30s and still tuning my knowledge when I can. Even people older than me do that. So force yourself to love knowledge.

Good luck on your educational journey. E no dey end.

What is the salary of a pharmacist?
You shud strive to obtain the license first and you can do great things with it...And then you should also strive to own a Pharmacy later on...Do not work all your Life in a Hospital or Industry or Administration...Well anyways ....You can make as much as #500k to 1.5 million naira monthly as profit monthly if you own a Reputable Pharmacy... While starting Salary for Pharmacy Interns is btw 125k to 150k monthly for now...but with the reviewed FG salary plan for PharmD holders...The salary of PharmD interns will surge
