On Friday night, David Ntekim- Rex , a young tech developer who just passed out from NYSC last year was robbed and shot by armed robbers on his way back from work at Jibowu, Lagos.

David was shot around 8pm. The police were called. David hadn't died yet. But the Police stood and watched as he gasped for air. They took pictures instead and were more concerned with why he a tech was carrying a laptop.

David was taken to the military hospital around the area, but the nurses ignored him. The doctor came around and kept on asking who they all were. I took the intervention of a senior nurse to come out and start checking his pulse. He had lost a lot of blood at this point.

The police then took David and his family to sabo to look for the laptop he had on him. No police report had been filed yet. The police officers were reportedly tipsy and kept on being unreasonable.

He was finally released to his family. They managed to get to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) where still received some rounds of neglect.

David wasn't attended to by the doctors at LUTH.
He laid there waiting till the family were convinced that he couldn't be alive because he had no pulse. The doctors refused to administer any test to confirm if he was still alive.

David passed on that period.

Friends, family, former teachers, and colleagues of David have all expressed their shock and sorrow of the sudden avoidable demise of the promising lad.

The robbers tried to do the devil's work, they did not totally succeed. The Nigerian system now finished him off. This guy could have been a developer of an app that could bring a lot of foreign exchange to the country. But our ill system is too blind to see that.

Can the family throw a law suit against the police, the Military hospital staff and at LUTH.

It may not result in any convictions but might ginger up the system--- a pseudo-inquiry of sorts.

I don't know why this shi# still happens. Even in 2021. The nation is increasingly becoming a dangerous place to dwell in. People get scared to help their compatriots because of fear of the unknown, law enforcement agents value procedures to emergency and safety. Nothing has been done about these. Today it's this young lad, tomorrow it may be another helpless lady or another bread winner of a family.
