Illegal NIN enrollment centre operators arrested in Kano

The National Identity Management Commission has busted some illegal centres carrying out registration for the National Identity Number in Kano State.

Operators of the centres were arrested during a raid by NIMC officials who handed them over to the police for investigation.

Some of the items found at the centres include NIMC slips, fake plastic ID cards and other documents belonging to the NIMC which shouldn’t be found under the custody of any other person.

In a video uploaded on the official Twitter handle of the NIMC, the Commission’s legal officer in Kano said the operation was done in conjunction with a team from Abuja.

He said, “We went around Kano together to check for illegal operations that were going on in some places, more particularly business centres and some cafes. We thank God that we made some arrests in about three centres.

“We gathered so many exhibits and evidence and we have taken them to the police station where the matter is being investigated.

“Part of the documents that we recovered are NIMC slips, fake plastic ID cards and some other documents belonging to NIMC that are not supposed to be under the custody of anybody, but unfortunately, we found them under the custody of these business centre operators.”

The legal officer added that the operators of the illegal centres will be taken to court when the investigation is concluded.

He said, “In fact, the investigation is almost concluded. The FIR has been raised by the police.”

This is what you get when a government gives ultimatum to millions of it's citizens to be registered by an ill-equipped agency.

The guy must have cash out before he was bursted. This is as a result of failed government giving people a limited time to register at all cost.

Good... They should be sentenced to 300 years' imprisonment with hard labor! Nigeria is not a lawless country.

God bless Nigeria.

My brother, the ultimatum is exactly what the lazy citizens get when they refused to be registered all these years until they were compelled to by this security conscious administration. So blame your lazy colleagues..

Nigerians are like "objects" in Newton's laws of motion, especially the first law... Them no go move or change: they keep doing what they are doing until you apply force... So using force to accelerate things is a welcome idea..

No be everything we go dey criticize the government.

Nigeria go better.

The fault of a useless...senseless and stupid goverenment for dishing out unrealistic target for NIN..Do the government ever think. You have a ill equipped agency..you give them unrealistic time to finish up and you expect things to go smoothly.. rubbish

Corruption is the normal.

What is abnormal is not engaging in corruption.

Although I still blame the government for not carrying out enough sensitization when they kickstarted the process but we Nigerians get our own for body too.
Do you know this NIN stuff has been open for registration since 2012, atleast that was when I registered mine..
So many persons knew about it then but believe me, they all refused to register because they felt it wasn't necessary.
I just feel it isn't right waiting till dying minute before taking actions, Almost everything requires NIN now, from International passport, Drivers license, federal jobs, utme and most scholarship applications within the country.
The reason why people are taking it serious now is because they don't want their sim blocked, that's all..
Aside that, many won't register.

People keeps saying the registration centres aren't much, but a good number of banks are being used, local government and so many other places. When a centre was opened at my former place of work, alot of persons were aware and still didn't register, to the extent that the NIMC staffs were forced to leave after a month because no turn up.
