The Presidential Task Force on Power (PTFP) has stated that an additional 1,000-megawatts have been added to Nigeria ’s electricity supply since President Goodluck Jonathan assumed power less than a year ago.
In its progress report released Monday, Chairman of the Communication Committee of the task force, Mr. Abimbola Agboluaje, also stated that due to better management of power supply, only one system collapse had been so far recorded in 2011 as opposed to three or four per month in the preceding years.

He noted that Jonathan’s administration has successfully prevented wild fluctuation in power supply as supply had been stabilised at 3, 800 megawatts, describing this figure as the highest ever in the industry.
The PTFP spokesman disclosed that the administration was fast-tracking delivery from National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP).
“One of the projects, at Olorunsogo, now contributes 113 megawatts to the national grid,” he said.
“New capacity of 690 is expected by December 2011 and a total of additional 1,000 megawatts and 2967 megawatts are expected by December 2012 and December 2013 respectively. Hence, the NIPP (projects) are expected to have delivered a total of 4770 megawatts to generation capacity by December 2013,” he added.

Agboluaje said about 3, 000 distribution transformers and associated power equipment nationwide had been installed, adding that some Nigerians are enjoying more hours of power supply because of the rehabilitation and recovery of existing generation plants.
He assured that more households and businesses would benefit from the increased generation and enjoy more hours of electricity as deficiencies in the distribution network were being progressively eliminated.

Let me help you . . . remember when Obasanjo left office in 2007, and we knew that the man had already invested money in the construction of power plants but many of them needed to have gas delivered --- essentially for the federal to sign a go ahead for that to happen? Remember it was left to the Yar adua administration to simply supply gas to the plants signed and contracted by Obasanjo? Well, it took Yar adua and Jonathan this long to accomplish what they promised they would do as soon as they got into office. So, how in the world are we now giving credit to Jonathan for work they should have done in credit to Obasanjo? Let's stop letting these people deceive us with their lies!

Agreed that the IPP's project were initiated by Obj, what the OP is simply giving credit to GEJ for doing in 1year what YarDua failed to do in 3 years- He choosre to spend the better part of 2years to prob Obj power project- and suspending futher investment or funding of the power projects, If Yardua has followed through the projects initiated by Obj- Nigeria would have been in a better place with both Power and Rail sector.

a) This was supposed to have been done back in 2007 and would not have cost the administration anything to get done

b) Jonathan was head of the committee that promised it would have been done by December 2009

So why are we praising him for doing what should have been done a long time ago, that required little effort on his part, just last year?
