The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the Unlawful Societies and Cultism (Prohibition) Bill 2020, which has ‘punishment’ for parents of convicted cultists as one of its components.

The House passed the bill during the plenary session on Monday through a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Mr Obasa said the House had included punishment for parents of cultists found guilty of cultism in the amendment of the Anti-Cultism Law, submitted by the state government.

The speaker said the punishment was to further prohibit unlawful societies and cultism, including other connected purposes in the state.

“Parents of cultists found guilty of cultism in the state ‘might be liable’ for punishment.

“The bill, if signed into law, will provide for the prohibition of unlawful societies and cultism in Lagos and for connected purposes.

“Though, we will also differentiate between the types of cultism in the country, so that we won’t solve one problem and create another,” he said.

The House did not specify the kind of punishment it was advocating.

Also contributing, David Setonji, representing Badagry Constituency II, described the issue as a major challenge for the state due to its ”commotion-causing devilish ideas”.

Mr Setonji, therefore, admonished parents to take proper care of their children by ensuring their compliance with societal norms and values.

“The issue of cultism has been a major challenge to us in the state.

“There is nothing wrong in associations coming together, but when it has to do with devilish ideas, causing a commotion, that is what we are against.

“As a result, parents should learn to take care of their children to ensure they conform to societal norms and values,” he said.

The speaker, therefore, asked the acting Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko, to send the clean copy of the bill to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his assent.

Yup.

But train your child so he/shvwill give you peace. Why should your child be a menace to society and you will be at peace? No way

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Let us shed more light on that verse from our Holy Bible.

This is not a promise to parents who raise their children properly but a warning to those who allow their adolescents to grow up without guidance,
Those parents who raise them to go their own way.
Children left to their own way are not likely to change; they will become adults who go their own way.
The wrong way.

Interestingly, Solomon wrote later in Proverbs 22:15 that “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child.” He obviously recognized that children don’t tend to make the wise choice on their own.
As you lay your bed , be ready to lie in it same way.
We guess this will curb/reduce cultism in our country to a certain degree.

To all cultists reading this, repent now before it is too late.
Jesus Loves You,
So do we kiss kiss kiss

How would you learn?

It shows all of you guys don't have children yet, or your children are still toddlers.

Did America attempt to punish the father of Abdulmutallab, an evidently Noble man, of act of terrorism.

When you begin to have children, or when your children grow up.
Just pray they don't go wayward. You'll understand then.
With this explanation,
You have some very good points here.
We now see where you are coming from.
We understand you better now.
We have seen many Noble men of God that has wayward kids truly.
Do have a very beautiful weekend ahead Mr Penuel.
God bless the produce of the farms.
God bless the works of our hands.
God bless our hustle.

This is a foolish law, e no even get logic.

Face who you suppose face.

If you can prove through investigation say the parents are actively hiding damaging things basically aiding the child in the activity, then that is different.

It will shock you that some parent encourage their children into cultism
Re: Lagos Assembly Passes Amended Law Punishing Parents Of Convicted Cultists by Martialb1(m): 4:56am On Feb 05, 2021
This law is somehow, how can you punish a parent/parents for their child's mistakes. Take for example my neighbors child that became a cultist after all the strict discipline and training they gave this boy. Some children are not just obedient and punishing a parent for that is stupid. Remember even the devil turned against god and u can't blame god for that, so...

You need to understand that people can be wayward regardless of the training they receive. Sometimes this kids can mask up their cult behavior around their parents and live regular lives until they are out of their parents sight, so it isn't the fault of the parents.

Finally, someone is thinking. The days of pump and dump on society will eventually come to an end. Watch how the run away population is reined in when the nation at large latches on. Consequences ignite second thoughts, deep thoughts.

You cannot raise your wards unchecked....It is not morally right...When your wards are off the trail, do something as a parent, don't say "it's their life" ...You bring them to this world, look after them....When you try all you can, and they are not yielding...Report to the law enforcement agencies.
