Akwa Ibom vs Cross River dick measuring bickering is as stupid as Abia vs Anambra, or IMO vs Anambra bickering some impostors on NL lead.
Why fight among yourself when outsiders see you as one?

Nobody outside AkwaCross will ever agree there is any difference between both of you. Any bad thing that happens in Cross River is automatically seen as Akwa ibom issue, and vice versa.
All of you are as far as we outsiders are concerned are one "Calabar people". We don't see any difference. The difference only exist in your own imaginations.

You local beef is your cup of tea.You all need to grow up mbok!

You are an outsider, so you know nothing about the difference between Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

Common sense should tell you not to make suggestions about what you know nothing about.

This is a sick and disgusting cultural practice. It commoditized the female child and violates her basic human rights but unlike what other commentators said, I do not think the use of force or police can eradicate this terrible cultural practice. At best police intervention will only drive the practice underground making it difficult to prove, prosecute or even report while it will continue to thrive underground.

The solution I see here is re-orientation and education of the custodians of this evil practice. Imagine one of the victims said 3 men and a woman held her down against her will to be sexually violated by another man because she had been sold off to pay a debt. Why will a woman do that to another female, knowing the trauma inherent in rape and sexual assault? The custodians of this evil practice needs their darkened mind illuminated with the light of knowledge and education. only then will this practice begin to die slowly and eventually be eradicated.

How do you sell a child for N2,000??

What kind of madness is this?

Use an unborn child as a collateral for debts?

Oga lender, how does sleeping with the girl recover your money back?

What exactly is the thought process of the people there?

Some things humans do baffle the devil.

Unfortunately, practices like this date back to the 14th century or earlier even in Yoruba land, we have eru and iwofa (slave and a person hired out to another person to work for a period of time in order to pay back debt) Culture being dynamic saw the eradication of this barbaric practice by 18th to 19th century. The annoying thing is that 200years after the abolishment of slavery and iwofa, a section of Cross Riverian still manage to hold on to this practice even in the 21st century. How resistant can a people be to civilization and decency?
