How does this even happen? This is supposed to be technically impossible if all safety measures are adhered to

The name Nigeria and safety measures doesn't go together

And you did not read about the 100 vehicles accident in Texas, USA, last week?

You have not read of train accidents like this in Europe and Asia?

Chai!
i read that news report. the difference is the injured were rushed to hospitals that work and the victims werent passed from hospital to hospital till they die or asked to submit police reports.

Tell me how do we go from here?

An accident occurred and people are all around the scene.

No emergency response team to even safeguard the scene and ensure safety measures..

People bringing out phones to video..on what ground?

We just too local and uncivil.

I'm not impressed

Sir go online and check, you will be shocked. With all the caution signs in place, so drivers still think they can cross before the train gets there despite the red light. They end up getting stuck in between the rails and then bang. All boils down to impatient.

I hope this is not a targeted attack, how is it possible?

Yes, train accidents, collisions still occur in the USA.

There’s nothing that happens in Nigeria that doesn’t happen in the USA. It’s just the severity that differs.

Nigerians have difficulty seperating ego, emotion from facts.
Nigeria does not have hospitals that work. 80% of the hospitals have lackadaisical staff that also appear lazy.
You can also be sure of RESPONSIVENESS abroad not that the ambulance driver/nurse/doctor is stuck in traffic so cant come now - it is his/her responsibility to come to work on time despite traffic.

Keep protecting ego and dont tell yourself the truth.

This is the same spot in Abbatoir/Fagba-Iju axis of Lagos where Yorubas and Northerners slaughtered each other, burnt houses and destroyed businesses. An important railway and motorway intersection that has no railway signal staff/personnel to alert people that a train is coming. This same spot is the heart of the notorious Iju-ishaga road traffic. besides these railway lines you will still see a keke/tricycle and Okada park of over 500vehicles. what if their is a train derailment here.

A truck heavily ladened with pkc(palm kernel dust chaff-food for pigs) was trying to do a quick James Bond across the train track despite seeing and oncoming train. the front of the truck got past safely but the train picked up the rear section and flipped it like an empty can

Thankfully you said 80% of the hospitals. Your previous comment was that accidents victims are sent to hospitals that do not work, thereby generalising the whole hospitals as if they do not work.

Someone originally wondered if such news about train accidents still happen in this country, sounding as if it does not happen in Europe, America and USA.

“Keep protecting your ego”. The problem with many Nigerians is the speed at which they criticize issues about the country. Have you ever wondered that if everyone does the right thing, this country can get better? If you stop giving/receiving bribes, taking undue advantage, allowing institutions get stronger, this nation can be great.

Thankfully 20% of the hospitals do not have lackadaisical staff. We may have bad private hospitals because a lot of the private ones are very small and lack adequate equipment. But the majority of the big ones are very effective. Maybe you do not know that even public hospitals in Lagos are getting much better than they were.

You can be very sure of RESPONSIVENESS here if you get to the right places.

There is no ego to massage, but people like us are very hopeful that our country can be greater in spite of the political differences.

80% was just being polite, kind and generous. Its closer to 95% with the 5% thats good hospitals being only affordable only by the rich....

Nigerians are very indisciplined, that’s the truth; for heaven’s sake how in the world does a normal human brain think that the train tracks is right place to be buying and selling! You drive them away 1hr later they are back there again. The Lagos state government needs to do more in the way of enforcement, have officers patrolling the tracks or stationed at points along the tracks permanently, Also at railway crossings they also need to do more, stop means stop even if the train in 5 mins away you wait till it has passed. No tangible results will be obtained with weak enforcement it needs to be ramped up with zero tolerance policy, no more kid gloves.

the accident actually happened around 6:42 am. i am an eye witness , and that wasn't the picture of the trailer.
the trailer saw the train coming and every vehicle were stopped as normal, but this guy just moved calculating wrongly that he would beat the train forgetting the length of his vehicle... the truck weight and it's load was so heavy to the extent that when the train hits it. the train stopped. people around there opened the truck door and beat the truck driver before he was taken into the train and the officials around are trying to restore normalcy
