MMA Training In Our Daily Life & How Is It Changing Us? by Elisbah: 1:41pm On Feb 15, 2021
As kids, our first introduction to martial arts was probably the action-packed movies of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. In the later years, franchises like the karate kid took their place. But all through these evolutions, the ideas of improving, finding a goal, and giving your life meaning remain consistent. The concept of martial arts giving people a new life and purpose is not so far-fetched. There is a subtle reality to it. Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a versatile sport that trains the body and the mind. There is no doubt that it would have a positive impact on the life of an MMA trainer.

What Is So Good About MMA And Other Physical Activities?

We all have heard the life-changing stories of people who found themselves after a bunch of push-ups in the morning. Even though this sounds absurd, there is fascinating science behind it. Science has proven time and time again how physical activities make the human body feel good. In simple words, physical activities shape our body's reward mechanism. In MMA, our muscles exert themselves hard, in a reaction to this exertion the body releases dopamine, a hormone associated with the brain's reward system. This chemical is responsible for improving the general mood of a person.

Let's take a look at how MMA training can affect your daily life and all the positive changes it results in.

● MMA And The Drive For Self-Improvement

Self-improvement is an essential part of any individual's life. Humans have long strived for methods, goals, and practices that force them to improve. MMA is one of those things. When a person trains in MMA, it changes their perspective on things. The only goal they began to see is how to become better—the focus shifts towards improving their stamina, strength, endurance, and skills.

At the same time, all these efforts directed towards improvement silently seep into their personal lives. They not only become better people but now they also seek improvement outside of the sport. All this is related to how our brain wires and rewires itself because of changing external stimuli. The response our brain gives to hardships during the training becomes its core memory, and it starts responding similarly to external difficulties.

● The Expansion Of Our Comfort Zone

MMA training is not a comfort zone for the majority of people. All the equipment and sportswear associated with it creates an uncanny environment for new-comers. People who start training for MMA initially feel the push of this exertion in discomfort because most of us are not used to being exposed to such harsh training. However, with time the body gets used to the struggle, and eventually, the comfort zone expands.
Due to the training, we find ourselves reaching for goals that we previously deemed impossible. That is the beauty of this sport. It not only pushes us to be better physically but also expands our comfort zone, enabling us to try new things and pursue new dreams. This shift in the mindset draws people towards sports like MMA because its benefits are not only limited to the fighting arena.

● The Realm Of Mental Fitness And Strength

MMA training is not just about physical fitness and strength. There is more to it than what it seems to be mindless punches and kicks to the bag. It is training for agility, endurance, strength, wit, and mind to body coordination. The overall working on both mind and soul is what makes MMA so unique. Additionally, both effects are synergetic and go hand in hand. It means that you cannot accomplish mental vigour without attaining physical health. How MMA trains, our mind can be understood by the following example.

For instance, if a player is training for a fight, he is working for the strength of his punches and when should the opponent be punched. In addition to that, the fight sequence can vary with the opponent's techniques and ability. It is why MMA players are sparring with several partners and mastering all types of attacks and defences. If you lack the nudge or motivation to get started, then a good option would be to invest in sportswear and equipment. There will be a hint of excitement that might get you started.

● The Perks Of Routine and Discipline

Leaning into MMA requires routine and performance of activity daily. You are not working days, then chances of achieving the goals and success are negligible. Falling into routine requires discipline and understanding the importance of daily contribution. It can apply to any other sport, but MMA is a much more significant mental training factor.

Moreover, the routine is also helpful in training the less dominant side of the body, helps with the angry management, and instils a true spirit of sportsmanship. One part of discipline also includes not letting the anger get the best of you. The average human response to the hit and fight is violence. MMA is not a game of violence. With discipline, you get to train for the reaction that is not driven by violence or revenge, but pure wit and thorough understanding of the hit.

● The Ultimate Source Of Happiness And Exercise High

Mental vigour and sensitization that comes with MMA also positively affect the mind. Not only it helps with agility, but it also trains the mind to rely on the long term and lasting mechanism of happiness. Usually, the body tends to rely on short term gratifications and temporary sources of happiness. They are readily available and don't last for a long time. Moreover, there is not much effort needed. For example, eating your favourite food, winning video games, or text response is all short-termed.

MMA training requires continuous effort, and the results are not seen at once. The reason behind it is that the exercise works on long term gratification systems that have lasting effects. To wean the body off the temporary happiness and go towards the long term happiness requires effort. It results in the release of endorphins that change the mood patterns and brings stability to a person's general wellbeing.

● Metabolic Boost And A Kick To Your System

Another way MMA training changes our daily life is by realigning the metabolism and improving the working of organ systems. It increases the caloric intake and mobilizes the fat stored in the body. All of which gives the design a much-needed kick towards a positive turn over. In addition to that, exercise also improves blood flow, and each cell gets the proper nutrients.

With cardio and resistance training, the heart muscles increase the cardiac output and nourish the organ adequately. The blood flow to extremities and less used parts of the body improves. Consequently, other systems also enhance functionality and work better. Digestion becomes better, and nutrients are better assimilated into the body. The liver filtration system also filters other toxins. With increased water intake, the hydration of the body improves, and the kidneys cleanse them.

● Perfect Remedy Against Stress

With the increase in the mental capabilities, new neural connections, and coordination, the stress goes down. The mechanism behind this is tied to the happy hormones circulating through the body and channelling negative emotion out of the body. MMA training floods the brain with endorphins that improve the mood and general sense of wellbeing.

In addition to that, fight training helps in getting anger and negativity out. MMA and boxing practices have been suggested to people with anger management issues. They are known to help these people by giving control and outlet to the build-up from the daily grind and surrounding social toxicity. In a way, it creates space for positive feelings and makes you feel less stress. Moreover, with energy-requiring practices, nightly sleep also becomes sound and impacts the mood positively.

● An Essential Tool As A Confidence Booster

With the body positivity and sound mind, comes the confidence and improvement in the self-worth. Both of which are some of the essential aspects of oneself, and reflect on their personality. MMA training results in a toned body and an appropriate figure. For many people, it is something that adds to the character and helps them gain confidence. It also works by giving the purpose and goal to life and depicts the sense of continually striving to work towards a better self.

All of these traits contribute towards a better personality and positive outlook on life. This confidence-boosting aspect is also connected with the general well being associated with both body and mind's overall soundness. In addition to that, lesser stress indicators, and over health results in the individuals are more likely to take on a challenging task and continuously expand and push their limits.
