The story of Jesus’ death as the final sin sacrifice for mankind, and that he fulfills the law of God so “we don’t have to follow it,” does not line up with the foundational scriptures within the Hebrew Bible. For the sake of the argument, let us say that Jesus was crucified and resurrected per some hidden prophecy removed from the Torah: perhaps extensive issues remained hidden within the white noise of scripture revealing biblical illiteracy and/or ignorance. The Torah has clear instructions for sin sacrifices, and one would be hard-pressed to find a church that outlines these requirements because the sharp contrast is far from ambiguous. God does not change. ​
The word Messiah means anointed one. The NT does not mention why God rests his spirit upon Jesus at his baptism: as an anointing? for kingship? as a prophet? or for his ministry? If he was anointed at his baptism, it does not follow the template God directs towards Samuel, who anoints both King Saul and King David. A woman anoints Jesus, and it is specifically noted he is being anointed for his death. The Torah’s sin sacrifice laws state you shall not put oil on an acceptable sin offering. ​As the books of the Bible were written, they were not given chapter and verse references; they were meant to be read in their entirety, and as such, it would have become abundantly clear by the time Leviticus 5:11 was read that none of the sacrifices should be anointed because they were sin offerings. Oil and frankincense were highly valued and not something the poor would readily have on hand, making it safe to infer that none of the sin sacrifices were to receive any oil or frankincense. Additionally, it makes no sense that only the poor should refrain from adding oil to their sacrifices. ​
Interestingly, there is no sacrifice for intentional sin in the Hebrew scriptures. While the New Testament presents Jesus as “the Lamb that takes away the sin of the world,” nevertheless as I read through the Torah laws, none of the sin sacrifice laws included a MALE lamb.
