He was not the modern winger like CR7 or Robben et al, he didn't need to dribble because he understood formations, all he needed to do was get the ball and make a pinpoint pass.

I also thought he was overrated till I saw his game statistics in one game where England played against Argentina.. this dude had 100% for pass completion both long and short... basically he did not waste possession... now that's efficiency.
