Maybe it's not HSV you're referring to, for the hsv-1 and hsv-2, they have no cure and the person would have it for the rest of their lives whether or not they show symptoms. The antiviral treatment taken within the first five days of the outbreak is just to shorten the outbreak, reduce pain, stop the outbreak from becoming worse.
