Hijab: Govt directs closure of affected schools

@followKWSG has directed immediate temporary closure of some grant-aided schools in Ilorin, the State Capital, pending resolution of the hijaab question in the schools.

The affected schools are:

1. C&S College Sabo Oke

2. ST. Anthony College, Offa Road

3. ECWA School, Oja Iya

4. Surulere Baptist Secondary School

5. Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam

6. CAC Secondary School Asa Dam

7. St. Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke

8. St. John School Maraba

9. St. Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale

10. St. James Secondary School Maraba

The closure comes as a government committee comprising representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities meets today to iron out the differences between the two communities.

Further communication will be issued to inform members of the public on the development.

Government calls for calm and urges parents and religious leaders to avoid actions or comments that may further split the two communities.

The war has been on for a long time. I think the issue should be handled with care to avoid a riot. It is not a must for Abdul to attend C&S College now.

These schools were built by Christian community which government is not renovating and the Christians still contribute money to maintain their "legacy". What was the compensation paid when the schools were forcefully taken over?

The point is that it got so bad in Kwara that Christian boys and girls were not getting admitted to some of these schools in the early 90's. That was why C&S Laduba, Emmanuel College Tanke, Chapel, ESS Ganmo etc came up as private/ mission schools.

Modified

The issue could be beyond just hijab. I know there was time last year that some folks muted idea of building a mosque inside Bishop Smith College. The question is, can they allow a chapel at college of Arabic, Ilorin being funded with government money?

Why can't this Muslim students go to a Muslim or govt schools littered all over Kwara state, must you attend a Christian school.
Some people just like causing problem where there is non! Enough of this nonsense!!!Christian schools like most schools have rules and regulations guiding them and it is called 'dress code'. Should traditionalists dress in masquerade or native apparel to schools because of freedom of religion?

Those Christian schools should resist any move to allow those Muslim students wear hijab.

What's even the usefulness of that hijab?

Will they allow others to dress in their different attires to a Muslim school?

Hypocrites everywhere.

In short they are targeting Christian schools

Go and find out what happened to the standard of education in nigeria when missionary schools were seized

If you want to attend a Christian school you better be ready to follow Christian standards, or go ahead and build your own school and set whatever standard you want

The extremism coming out of illorin is another explosion waiting to happen

I see no reason why Muslim students should be denied their constitutional rights.

Moreover, these schools are government schools (though bearing Christian names). All Muslim students, in particular, female students should be allowed to dress in Hijab since these schools are for the public.
