Benin Republic Ready To Be Nigeria’s ‘37th State’ – Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, had expressed readiness for his country to be part of Nigeria.

Onyeama, who stated this shortly after a close door meeting with Beninoise Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Aurélien Agbenonci, said the Beninoise president gave the offer when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari, a few weeks back.

“The President of Benin said as far as they are concerned, they want (not just saying it like that) but in reality, Benin should be the 37th state of Nigeria,” he said.

“We should really be one. They charged us to come together at ministerial level, to work out a framework for a sustainable relationship.”

Onyeama said, at the visit, both presidents discussed agreements between the two countries on how to put the issue of smuggling to an end, once and for all, as a follow up to the presidents’ meeting.

Welcome development.

We have been advocating for such since but before they Join those that wants to leave will be allow to leave so that their will be space for them to join.

Niger republic is already part of Nigeria now and Benin republic willing to join....they should wait so that those that wants out will leave before they can join and be fully integrated back with their fellow Yorubas in Nigeria.

Since they are Yoruba by extension which would increase Yoruba political power "owners of one Nigeria won't approve it"

If it were to be Niger or Chad that connects North Buhari and Nigeria would be ok with it

Not only increase yoruba political power...who will approve such nonsense?

They are free to join as far as others are free to leave.

The same people who approved a railway to Niger, gave light to Niger and open boarders to them would do it if they wish.

It's not about the stupidity of how it sounds, it is about doing what gives north edge

What are you saying? How did USA come about, Benin Republic is the subject of discussion and not Niger. If modalities are worked out well it might bring about the restructuring we are clamoring for.

Wahala be like candy crush. E no Dey finish cheesy

Let’s wait and see how Nigerian govt react to this, modalities put in place and next move. For me it’s a huge welcome idea. It will ease a lot of things

Naturally, Benin economy is control by Nigerians, cus small cough from nigeria shake them 4times. So it’s a good thought out idea. And am sure befor the president could think of things like this, he must av made his proper findings. I hope nigeria leader use their head in dealing with this for the betterment of the 2 sides

What make you think that the north will disapprove this? You think Yoruba are the only people in Benin, the northern part of Benin have Bariba which we also have in north.
