Pls don't waste your money on building any forum. Nairaland runs on SMF(Simple Machine Forum). SMF is an open source forum software.Meaning that it's free to install. All you have to do is get a hosting account and you're good to go.

Who builds a custom forum this days. Can you please point me to one forum that's not either Vbulletin, SMF, PHPBB etc.

@Afam, look at Nairaland. It hasn't changed since the day I registered. Though is earning the cash it was intended to do. Thats what you get for FREE. It depends on the POSTER. If he wants something that CANNOT be edited in future, fine, else I'll advice you get a GOOD developer to design one for you. Besides, even the so called FREE software can't be installed by everyone.

I have seen many custom forum. It just that I don't use to bookmark it so I can remember now.

Most people can not even install this free open source like WordPress Joomla e107, smf vBulletin and the rest talk less of customizing in it
