How we abuse the great gift of the holy spirit by Nobody: 8:20am On Feb 28, 2021
Good morning and Happy sunday to you all.
I will try to make this as swift as possible, many gifts of the holy spirit are given but the gift of tongues by far remains the greatest of them all,but yet it still remains the most utterly misinterpreted gift of all, nowadays people believe that if you speak in tongues then truly truly you have been baptized by the holy spirit.
It is now more or less a test to show ones spirituality but yet the speaking in tongues practiced today has gone contrary to the biblical one. Before the ascension Jesus assigned his disciples with the job of taking the divine message of the gospel to all corners of the earth
MARK 16:15-17 He said to them,
“Go into
all the world and preach the
gospel to all creation.
Whoever believes and is
baptized will be saved, but
whoever does not believe will
be condemned. And these
signs will accompany those
who believe: In my name they
will drive out demons; they will
speak in new tongue

To enable them to be able to carry out the work given they were given the ability to speak in tongues of various languages on Pentecost
ACTS 2
And when the day of
Pentecost was fully come,
they were all with one accord
in one place.
And suddenly there came a
sound from heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it
filled all the house where they
were sitting.
And there appeared unto
them cloven tongues like as of
fire, and it sat upon each of
them.
And they were all filled with
the Holy Ghost, and began to
speak with other tongues, as
the Spirit gave them utterance.
And there were dwelling at
Jerusalem Jews, devout men,
out of every nation under
heaven.
Now when this was noised
abroad, the multitude came
together, and were
confounded, because that
every man heard them speak
in his own language.
And they were all amazed
and marvelled, saying one to
another, Behold, are not all
these which speak Galilaeans?
And how hear we every man
in our own tongue, wherein we
were born?
Parthians, and Medes, and
Elamites, and the dwellers in
Mesopotamia, and in Judaea,
and Cappadocia, in Pontus,
and Asia,
Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in
Egypt, and in the parts of
Libya about Cyrene, and
strangers of Rome, Jews and
proselytes,
Cretes and Arabians, we do
hear them speak in our
tongues the wonderful works
of God.
And they were all amazed,
and were in doubt, saying one
to another, What meaneth
this?
Peter the explained to the crowd and the multitude understood him irrespective of there language and in Acts 2:14-17 over 3000 were converted
The main aim of tongue speaking was to enhance communication during preaching but today many have coveted this gift with the sounds of meaningless babbling because what they display as speaking in tongues today is not a distinct language neither does it pass a message.
Paul wrote of the gift in
2 Timothy 2:16
"But shun profane and vain babblings:
for they will increase unto more ungodliness."
because language where made for communication speaking in tongues was made to facilitate communication, but if I speak and you don't understand then communication has not occurred and the language spoken becomes babbling or noise.
Paul also admonishes the Corinthians in
1 Cor 14:6-11
But now, brethren, if I come to
you speaking with tongues, what shall I
profit you unless I speak to you either
by frevelation, by knowledge, by
prophesying, or by teaching?
7Even
things without life, whether flute or
harp, when they make a sound, unless
they make a distinction in the sounds,
how will it be known what is piped or
played?
8 For if the trumpet makes an
uncertain sound, who will prepare for
battle?
9 So likewise you, unless you
utter by the tongue words easy to
understand, how will it be known what
is spoken? For you will be speaking
into the air.
10 There are, it may be, so
many kinds of languages in the world,
and none of them is without
2 significance.
11 Therefore, if I do not
know the meaning of the language, I
shall be a 3 foreigner to him who
speaks, and he who speaks will be a
foreigner to me.

1 Corinthians 14:27-28

If any man speak in an
unknown tongue, let it be by
two, or at the most by three,
and that by course; and let
one interpret.
But if there be no
interpreter, let him keep
silence in the church; and let
him speak to himself, and to
God.
Checkout 1st for 14:18-19 and 1st Corinthians 14 4 to 5

So let us shun profane babbling and avoid misinterpreting the gifts of God
