A Tribute To Founder Of Bigard Medical Team, Late Chief Dr. Evaristus Udorah
A Pillar Gone, But Lives Forever. As the Requiem Mass was celebrated for Late Chief Dr. Evaristus Udorah Founder Bigard Medical Team by the Bigard Family on this Day 8th of March, 2021 .

St Luke’s clinic which started like a miniature clinic/dispensary in one room at St Peter’s hostel in 1977 grew to an Ultra-modern Hospital today under the patronage of Late Chief Dr. Evaristus Udorah, the pillar upon which St Luke’s clinic was built.

It is quite disheartening and saddening that this pillar has left us, but the joy and love we shared together from the inception of our Clinic to your exit linger in our minds; it is a memory that even death cannot erase.

As we look back over time we find ourselves wondering…”Did we remember to thank you enough for all you have done for Bigard Clinic? ““For all the times you were by our sides: to help and support us and to solve our medical issues?”

Late Dr.E.P.C Udorah not only founded St Luke’s clinic with the encouragement and co-operation of the then Rector, Very Rev.Fr Dr.P.D Akpunou, but also devoted his whole life working in this clinic. It is on record that he is the only Doctor who was consistently present in the clinic twice a week-Mondays and Fridays for consultations. He rarely missed a consultation period and was in fact in the clinic on Monday the week he died.

He even booked appointments with some of our seminarians on Friday and we were eagerly waiting for his arrival when we got a phone call from Mrs. Monica Udeze about the demise of our amiable, selfless, dedicated, loved and cherished Dr. Udorah.

At a very young age Dr. Udorah decided to dedicate his life to improving the health of those around him especially the Bigard formators and Seminarians. He was totally consumed in his love for the Bigard family to the extent that any day he failed to come for consultation because of unexpected exigencies seemed like an unfulfilled day for him.

Even when health was no longer on his side and he was on a number of occasions dissuaded from coming, his son Dr Val. Udorah, narrated how he normally replied: “I complete my day’s activities in Bigard Clinic”. Dr. Udorah, we are so proud and grateful for your dedication.

Should we talk of the free drugs he used to give students periodically, or the subsidies on lab tests to all Bigard seminarians (50% discount for any type of Lab test conducted in his Private Hospital , Divine Providence), or his private times which he sacrificed in the consulting room with our students on Mondays and Fridays.

Should we also talk of his innovative spirit that helped transform the miniature one room clinic/dispensary at St Peter Hostel in 1977 to a magnificent and wonderful edifice that we have today, with all the facilities of a hospital under the auspices of successive Rectors of this great Seminary- from Rev.Fr.P.D. Akpunonu through Rev.Fr. Ukoro Igwe down to the present Rector, Rev. Fr.Albert Ikpenwa.

In fact, the blessing of the Ultra-Modern Clinic by his Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, accompanied by most Rev. Dr C.V.C Onaga (the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese) and honored by Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Governor of Enugu State on Monday October 9, 2017 marked a turning point in the history of this clinic. Today, St Luke’s Clinic boasts of having over 70 medical practitioners working actively on voluntary basis in the clinic. Each person has a special day allotted to him or her.

We are happy that you lived long to receive a merit award, for your services in Bigard, together with Dr. Chike Akunyili on behalf of Bigard Medical Team, during the celebration of Bigard @95 , on 14th November 2019.

We will always remember that special smile, that caring heart, that warm embrace, you always gave us. Your being there for the staff and students of Bigard Memorial Seminary through thick and thin bears eloquent testimony to your dedication towards the wellbeing of Bigard Family.

We don’t think we will be able to exhaust all the things you have done for us in white and black but may God Almighty through our prayers today receive you into his eternal bliss, where you and the saints will be praying for us. We are not afraid of where you are going, because as we read in Wisdom 3: 1 “the souls of virtuous are in the hands of God”. May this be our source of Consolations?

Adieu doctor!

Adieu chief!

Adieu Founder Bigard Medical Team!!!
