#JusticeForItunu: Nigerians Demand Justice For Lady ‘Jailed’ 20 Years In Côte d’Ivoire (Photo)

Nigerians have begun demanding justice for a young Nigerian woman Itunu Babalola allegedly jailed in Côte d’Ivoire after reporting a burglary incident, Igbere TV reports.

Journalist David Hundeyin called attention to Ms Babalola’s plight on Monday via Twitter.

He said:

https://twitter.com/DavidHundeyin/status/1371216203788783625?s=20

Mr Hundeyin said Babalola reported this to the police who told her to return on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, but the appointment held on November 6.

He said Babalola was informed by the divisional police officer that the suspect was his nephew. The Nigerian was reportedly offered about N100,000 to drop the case.

Hundeyin added that Babalola was then arrested and charged for theft of her own property.

According to him, she did this to avoid getting her family name mixed up in bad news and potentially upsetting her aged mom.

Hundeyin called for assistance from Nigerian authorities, adding that Babalola had lost hope and attempted suicide twice.

Reacting to the report, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) tweeted:

Beyond physical explanation, this is a case of village pple interference and manipulation.

It’s not always greener on the other side, it’s a game of luck.

You don’t have to travel to be a victim of such. This kind cases plenty for Naija. Na to pray make God protect/ deliver us from oppressors.

Only God knows what Nigerians go through and are going through in various countries of the world, simply because everyone wants to run out from the country due to bad leadership. God have mercy on Nigeria.

Something like that happens here too.

This is where a jury of peers may be a better option than one corrupt judge.

seems this is worse than Nigeria system

accused of stealing her own properties when the thief has already confessed

Also, her issue of identity fraud doesn't help her case, you came in with probably a visa or document that bears your name then tell the court you bear another name entirely without previous change of name the person who advised you to do this is a dunce and if you are the one that advice yourself you are a dunce

the lady stupid no be small....what if dem kill am....no trace of name

I'm a very soft person o. Insults and abuse gets me easily. I don't want someone attacking me for something this simply, hence I have to be very very careful here.

Nigerian system will always be the worst, I had somewhat similar experience in 2015.

I bought Keke and gave it to someone to ride on hire purchase, few months later story enter inside...the guy called me one and said the Keke was missing, I told him point blank to find it that I don't need stories...to cut it short, the guy went to police station to lodge a complaint against me that I came to his house and stole his properties and collected his 300k....mind you this same person has been owing me for months, I went to a police division around my area to make an entry for the missing Keke only for him to go the Police headquarters to make the claim that I came to his house...to cut the story short...police came to arrest me, I told them point blank I'm the one whose property was missing...the guy didn't know I had long legs in the police...later later he started begging me that it was the police man that deceived him to write such petition. Nigeria is messed up

Baba, it is because of the porous law. Even in the US, corruption like this happens too, even worse injustice.

Such police officers are called dirty cop, but the difference is that the law is stronger there.

Laws were once strong during the empire days until oyinbo come corrupt us with their system.

But on the second thought, This is just a little of what Nigerians do to themselves in the name of religion, ethnicity etc. As for my dear sister, your oppressors shall be oppressed into submission to free you even Now. Shalom
