"Private importation of COVID-19 vaccines has not been authorised due to reports of substandard falsified vaccines in circulation.''

The Federal Government has not authorised private importation of COVID-19 vaccines, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire has said.

Mr Enahire made this known during the Presidential Tasks Force briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja.

”Private importation of COVID-19 vaccines has not been authorised due to reports of substandard falsified vaccines in circulation.

”The deployment of vaccines will be handled by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) or any of the agency’s accredited facilities for now,” the minister said.

Speaking on the ongoing concerns about the AstraZeneca vaccines, the minister reassured that the vaccines were safe and no adverse effects had been recorded in the country.

“The president, vice president, other leaders, frontline health workers have taken the vaccines and are all doing well,” he said.

The minister also said that the National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have developed a health safety app to enable those who have been vaccinated report any adverse reaction.

”We are working with state commissioners for health to meet the COVID-19 support fund requirements.

”We assure all states and local governments that the promised support fund for the process would be paid as soon as the formalities are complete.

“I urge all states to use existing resources so that there are no hitches in the exercise before the disbursement,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria( NAN), reports that 8, 000 jabs have been administered across 34 states and the FCT with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines, except Kogi.

Kogi state is yet to establish a fully functional cold chain facility in order to receive its allocation.

Why will the FG even think of allowing private firms. The vaccine should be solely handled by the FG.

Instead of the Ministry of health to think on how to source for a remedy by pooling local resources together including the many virology specialists and institutes scattered across this nation to see how Nigeria can be salvage from this raging health challenge as many nations are doing, its leadership is only obsessed with whether a local vaccine importing license is going to be granted or not.

The next thing now is how to subsidize it.

What concerns private companies with something as delicate as covid 19 vaccines?

This govt is clearly confused.

Same thing that is being avoided world over

So that the vaccine should not be monopolized by rich people

Bill gates and co didn't spend millions of dollars for this to happen.
