2023 Presidency: There’s Political Gang Up Against Igbos – Ohanaeze Chieftain by JEWELofHELL: 2:42pm On Mar 26, 2021
Chuks Ibegbu, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the apex Igbo socio-political organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Friday accused Nigerian political elites of ganging up against the Southeast.

Ibegbu made the remark while insisting that the Igbos have not been fairly accommodated within the Nigeria’s political sphere.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Ibegbu called on all political parties to address the matter in 2023 by zoning their presidential candidates to the Southeast.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo chieftain described Igbos as hard-working and patriotic people who should rule Nigeria in 2023.

He said: “Under normal circumstances, wherever a president hails from does not matter; what should matter is performance and who will deliver the dividends of democracy. But in a pluralistic and diverse society like ours, every section of the country must have a feeling of political belonging.

“There must be fairness in the distribution of political powers, and because of the nature of our society which is an evolving one, every sector should have a sense of belonging.

“The North has dominated power for more than forty years, either military or civilian. The West also has had its fair share either as military or civilian, and recently the South-south too (Jonathan).

“Nigeria was built on a tripod, North, West and East. A significant bloc of that tripod is the Igbos, and they have not been given political fairness; they have not been politically accommodated. That does not mean they have not been participating in political activities in Nigeria. There seems to be a political gang-up against the Igbos and the irony is that Nigeria is suffering from it.

“Igbos are a very patriotic set of people and very conscious of developments, so why won’t all the political parties Zone their presidential candidates to the Southeast.

“In the first republic, there was a kind of zoning; that was why Abubakar Tafa-Balewa became the Prime Minister while Zik from the South became a ceremonial president. In the Second Republic, Shagari was from the North, and Alex Ekwueme was from the Southeast. When Yar’ Adua was President from the North, Jonathan was from the South. So zoning has been a feature of our political stability, so there is nothing wrong in zoning due to our society’s nature.

“Zoning is necessary until such a time when we are mature enough not to care where the president comes from, either from Daura or Ogbomosho, so long as food is on my table, but we have not reached that stage yet. So, that is why it is very apt that all political parties zone their presidential candidacy to the Southeast and the Igbos. Eight years is not too much; let the power go round. After that, we can now sit down and say where the president comes from does not matter.”

Okay...

"Igbos are not trustworthy when it comes to politics: precedence has shown that they backstab other tribes while attempting to climb to the top.

Politics and the securing of power is based on merit and competence, therefore any one waiting for power to be brought as a parcel at a village meeting is deluded"

Statements like these thrive well in reminding anyone that the nation as a whole is driven by self-centrism— You and you alone must agitate for and secure what you want. We become least concerned when the other people are oppressed and marginalized, why should we care? We only employ logic when we're affected, why shouldn't we?

By every reason of process, it is overdue for Igbos to lead.

When we were telling these so called elders that there’s no such thing as ‘one Nigeria’, they naively insist on soldiering on in blind faith!

This proves it’s not always that elders can see sitting down, what the younger ones can’t see even when they climb Iroko tree! smiley

They’ve still not forgiven you for planning coup in 1966....and for being merit driven and high achievers!

2023 will reset many brains!

Instead of power to go to South West, let it remain in the North. Yoruba should know they are not the only region in the South

Actually, Igbos are the ones ganging up against the rest of the south. They are the ones pushing for Atiku to continue with northern rule. They are the dominant group in PDP and still, they have no plan to field an Igbo candidate to contest for the ticket of the party.

If you want the presidency, put up a candidate and contest for it with other southern zones in 2023. South west leaders are making effort in APC. Start making serious effort in PDP.

I remember the South South and North Central voted massively for Atiku during the last election. Why do Nigerians always blame igbo for everything, even for things they aren't at fault

Why do you sneakily try to limit the south-easts presidential ambitions to just PDP? Aren’t there Igbos in your APC that you can push forward if you have any sense of fairness and justice?

Southern solidarity my black ass! shocked

Nigeria was built on a tripod, North, West and East.

According to this man, Nigeria was built on a tripod, so where does Jonathan falls on this tripod ?

As far as we know, Jonathan already used the period of the East

The same Yorubas that voted for Jonathan in 2011 even with the fact that we are majorly tilted towards ACN in the gubernatorial elections.

Igbos have always been working against the South, unless if you count the SW out of your said South.

Azikiwe, Ekwueme, Ugoh, including the gang up of 1999 against Olu Falae a clear Yoruba candidate.

You Igbo only know nothing more than blackmail and relying on your connection (Easteen Region) with the tribes of the SS to push the agenda of a supposedly Southern betrayal by the Yorubas.

You should also remind them that we voted that South in 2011 and only show Jonathan the way out when it’s evident he marginalized and told us to do our worst.

Ohaneze should wake up and do the real politicking. How can they get an Igbo man there when their kinsmen that should market their candidates are busy antagonizing Tinubu daily.

When Tinubu caucus eventually win in 2023, the Ohaneze will start another round of wailing.

Evidences of Igbos threatening to jeopardize the return of power to the south in 2023 abounds everywhere on social media. Even on this thread, you can see their threats. So, nobody is blaming anybody here. We are simply saying what’s obvious.

The same people boasting during GEJ's tenure are the same ones crying foul today.. truly, nothing lasts forever.

The only reason they hate PMB is cos they weren't able to penetrate and take over his government like they did to Goodluck. They always hate what they can't have or possess.

Sabotage Igbo presidency and increase the tempo for Igbo soveriengty, that is the agenda. Try get sense small. Igbo presidency will kill the Biafra dream and it is not the best because Igbos v alot to gain if they stay as a nation unlike the Yorubas that survive on govt proceeds and opportunities.
