Having to invest in savings to pay for auto repairs is always painful, and it's been even more difficult lately as the economy is doing. To ensure we are maintaining the value of our cars (possibly your most important asset) and repairing costs, here are some simple, easy-to-remember tips on how to keep your car in tip-top condition.

1.
OIL

Oil is your car's blood, and without it the car won't go far or quietly. Let your mechanic show you how to properly check your oil and
have the oil change every 3,000-3,500 miles. While oil manufacturers have claimed that their oil can last 10,000 miles, it is generally best not to use the same oil more than 5,000 miles to maximize engine reliability and efficiency over the long term. Check the oil regularly, about once a week, and change the oil or have it changed when you reach the limit of 6,400 to 7,200 km.

2.
KEEP THE BRAKES, BELTS AND BATTERY IN GOOD CONDITION

The braking systems of modern cars need to be replaced regularly to maintain maximum braking efficiency. If you experience any problems with the brakes, take your car to have the brakes checked immediately. If the brakes fail, a very serious accident can result.

3.
OBSERVE THE WARNING SIGNS

When your car's dashboard lights come on, contact your trusted mechanic. Delaying a repair can cause irreparable damage to the vehicle and make sure you know the fair price for any upcoming repairs or maintenance by checking the repair price before taking your car to the store.

4.
ALWAYS USE A REPUTABLE MECHANIC

Much like having a great doctor we see for our annual checkup, finding an honest, trustworthy experienced auto technician is important. An excellent mechanic will keep your car in good condition. To find a good mechanic, look around for dealerships that sell that particular car.

5.
KEEP THE BODY INTACT

The cosmetic appearance of our car is also important. Simple things like washing your car, waxing it regularly, and making sure dents are removed will help better maintain your car's value and prevent long-term problems like rust and fading.

6.
KEEP THE INTERIOR CLEAN

Clean and vacuum the interior as needed. The interior is often a selling point when it comes to trading in or selling the car. While many don't care about oil or tyres, it has been said that the value of the car is kept in the cabin and that statement holds true. If you ever want to trade in or sell the car, every quarter you spend on a wage vacuum is paid back to you with interest.

7.
USE THE RIGHT TYRES WITH THE RIGHT PUMPING

Ensure they are properly inflated to the pressure specified by the manufacturer. Tyre gauges are cheap and easy to use. Tyres should be replaced when tread wear indicators appear between the treads. Inspect with your local tyre dealer if you are unsure how to identify the tread wear indicators. Check your tyres for pressure every other day and every week for wear or damage. Have them replaced when they are worn beyond acceptable limits

8.
Make sure the windows are clear and functional

Make sure all windows, mirrors, and lights are clean and not broken. Replace broken lights or mirrors as soon as possible. Have small windshield tears performed by a windshield repair center to determine if the windshield can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced. Check regularly for cracks and damage

9.
KEEP ALL FLUIDS REFILLED

The other elixir of life in the car are the fluids that the power-train must have. Coolant, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid, and other fluids must be checked at least once a week. Ask your mechanic to demonstrate the method of checking these.

10.
EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEMS

Depending on where you live, you may need to have your car checked for emissions on a regular basis. Generally, a professional needs to perform the diagnosis. Oxygen sensors and EGR valves are two common reprobate

FINAL WORDS

Like it has been stated earlier, the car functions like the human body. The rate at which it functions is dependant on the treatment given to it.
