I had to change the topic to allow for a more compelling argument.

Barreling through onitsha, one would wonder if there is a federal govt footprint in the city.

Aside the niger bridge and mausoleum, the answer is a resounding “no”.

This has lead the city to be a law on her own and not always adhering to federal govt issued Muslim holidays because of its predominantly Christian population.

Barely 60yrs after a devastating war that brought the desolation and destruction of the city, the city was quickly built up by individuals with barely any support from the state.

Not until the govt of Peter obi did the city learn of what “government” entails.

From paving of new roads to adding new streets/traffic lights to new building laws and establishing of industrial estates etc .. the city seems to have adapted very well.

Why the state govt is trying to pull her weight, it only accounts for 10% of the cities development while a whooping 90% of city development is attributed to private individuals.

Way forward: successive state governors in anambra should stop waiting on FG to throw their support in the city development.

New laws should allow for building more than 7 story buildings

The city will not wait for any govt.

Governments should leave their footprint in the city before it’s too late

I believe as igbos we need to tax rented apartments 25 of their rented value

If a building is rented for 2 million a year government would get 500k ...mean state government ooh

States like anambra would easily make 400bn. Year from this , and imagine the Infastruture development we would achieve

Did u say corruption ? Would an igbo man pay that kind of money and not be interested in politics ? With middle class igbos interested in politics it would be imposible to loot much

generally onitsha is a suberb city mostly developed by private investors other than The goverment.

its a shame.

And the so called FG has the unmitigated audacity to instruct people to stay at home on a holiday that has nothing to do with them?

It’s a comedy really

HOW CAN YOU ALOT 10% TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WHEN YOU KNOW THAT THE NIGERIAN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTES ZERO TO INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF IGBO LAND!

THAT ONTISHA YOU ARE LOOKING AT, THE ONLY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTION IS FREQUENT TAX HARRASSAMENT BY FG ON FACTORIES SETUP THRU INDIVUAL EFFORT!

Before you tell me about Headbridge onitsha, pls remember its a concessional contract - the federal government contributed only 3% of the total contract sum.

Igbo Business men have no problem paying taxes as long as there is transparency on how the money is collected and used.

With Zero government support, Igbos were able to rebuild Onitsha through hardwork and self reliance.
Despite 20 pounds policy,
Despite lack of federal presence except army and police,
Despite low allocation,
Despite federal government refusal to declare it an oil producing state,
Despite no single airport or riverport.

But igbo land is already deriving more than it fair share of Nigeria resources. If we are talking about SS or the SW that is understandable not the wretched South among them.

Private individuals are investing massively in Imo. The problem is the state government. No vision for that state.

the problem is Imo’s link to the FG

Anything the FG has a hand in is doomed to fail.

Imolites should snub both FG and state for now and develop themselves atm
