Nonetheless, Nigeria’s internet technology space continues to advance speedily.

Following the establishment of its first African office in Ghana, Twitter says it would recruit experts of major local languages in Nigeria (Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa) for its operations.

The company stated that the remote position is available for all candidates but the employee must have a full understanding and interpretation of news content from the Nigerian media.

Other criteria for the job includes the ability for candidates to have adequate knowledge and understanding of English and Pidgin English which is also commonly spoken in Nigeria.

“Twitter is looking for a passionate people manager to take on the role of Curation Lead for Nigeria.

“This person will manage a team that is focused on quickly, accurately and impartially summarising complex conversations that are unfolding in real-time on Twitter and important to users in Nigeria.

“While this role is primarily focused on English and English Pidgin content, working proficiency in one or more of the following languages is an advantage: Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo,” parts of the requirements on the career section of the company stated.

Jack Dorsey, Twitter CEO, on Monday announced via his Twitter handle that the company would be citing its first African base in neighbouring Ghana, to the chagrin of Nigeria’s vast tech industry, Peoples Gazette reported.

The Ghanian President Nana Adufo welcomed the company into the Ghanaian business environment while acknowledging the company’s partnership with the country.

Ghana is on the uptick in technological advancement and has a comparatively more appealing environment for business.

Conversely, Nigeria’s economy is struggling for survival under the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, and has just survived the second economic recession in five years. Bloomberg also places the country’s unemployment rate at 33 per cent, second-highest in the world.

Nonetheless, Nigeria’s internet technology space continues to advance speedily as young innovators continue to roll out world class tech solutions amid scanty government support.

The internet market also keeps expanding. According to a survey by NOIPolls, there are 39.6 million registered Twitter users connected in Nigeria compared to Ghana with about eight million active users.

Twitter would have love to establish it's first Africa office in Nigeria, but a government that does not support young innovators but will advise it's youth to embrace "Cowtocurrency" as a means of livelihood will only end up chasing big tech investors like Twitter away....

Now, Ghana will benefit immensely from this, because they have a government that is working and a president that supports the youth unlike a lifeless donkey in London who calls his youth "LAZY"

They're using this recruitment to compensate Nigeria youths which I will commend them for.

Because of politics, you waged war on social media and swiftly sponsored a bill to kill it whereas, you gained power via the same means.

You attacked crypto, just because you saw it as a threat thereby block Nigerian youths of a means of legitimate livelihood but you couldn't block the sources of terrorism funding in Nigeria for years until Dubai did the needful. Instead of praising uae government, buhari govt condemned the action, even said the sponsors of terrorism who were arrested with proofs were unfairly treated because they weren't given a fair hearing...all because they belong to a particular section of the country who sponsor, kill for fun and linked to terrorism. The only statement I have been waiting for is for them to say dubai did what they did for politics sake as they always claim. Sadly, some morons still back this government. No wonder we're this stagnant as a nation. We shall get sense someday.

E shock me

Buhari and Garba sheu are perfect example of bad luck.

Freedom of speech curtailed for self interests, chasing investors and talking about encouraging investors at the same time.

Adamu garba tried to sue jack ( twitter) in Nigeria...

If the cowtocurrency subscribers could think of doing that when the operation office is in America.. how much effort would they put in to bring the office down if it were in Nigeria??

Jack thought it wise not to bring it down here because absolute power corrupts absolutely.. na one time our cowtocurrency subscribers go bring down the office if they use the platform to speak against them..

Insecurity, power, and government policies are other reasons is wasn't brought down here

Great opportunity to decrease unemployment but we missed it

Twitter can't do without Nigeria's in the African market just that the Buhari govt is allergic to technological advancements, that is why Twitter opted to cite their office in Ghana.

Ghana is the new Nigeria. Ghana will be home of foreign investor, why? Because the have the basic amenities. But Nigeria personnel will be the employees of such investments. Therefore, Ghana got the amenities, and Nigeria got the Human Resources.

Its a pity that the Ghana we where once better of has gone above and beyond us despite our large population and numerous advantages which we have refused to exploit as a result of hatred, tribalism and religious fanatism.

It is obvious that Twitter would have loved to establish their African headquarters in Nigeria but due to the incompetency of this government it was moved to Ghana
