It sound ridiculous right now to say the soul does not exist because it was once ridiculous to say that the earth was not at the center of the universe or that the sun does not revolve around the earth.

maybe I have to break it down..... We were meant to live forever if not for disobedience of Adam. Jesus coming to earth was to teach people of coming Kingdom , when it comes, all dead ones who worshipped God when alive will be resurrected. Human science is still primitive, 90% of universe is contained with black matters and energies unexplainable to science except some theories,. 70% of earth oceans remain unexplored by human science

There is nothing to understand in anything that is not promising.

This school of thought believes that no one is in the lake of fire or heaven yet.

The Bible teaches otherwise of what many churches teaches today. According to the Bible, the earth was a paradise before Adam sin. It will be restored back to paradise when God's kingdom/government come, and only the meek will live there. Jehovah has appointed Jesus as the king of that kingdom. In the meantime, the dead are currently in the dust/grave awaiting resurrection.

ND: hades(Greek), hell(Latin), Sheol(Hebrew) mean the same thing, they mean grave
